Top 10 YouTubes of 2015

It’s time for my annual posting of the Top 10 YouTube Videos of the Year (see last year’s list here). This ranking is totally unscientific. Only one person was polled to compile this list—yours truly. This year’s slate of videos is mainly humorous, with a dash of overrepresentation from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If you think I’ve left something out, let me know. I’ll think about adding it to the “Honorable Mention” category at the bottom.

If you’re interested, here are links to lists from previous years:

2014 | 2013 | 2012 | 2011 | 2010 | 2009 | 2008

1. Will Ferrell Reprises Pres. Bush Impression

The man who entered “strategery” into the American lexicon reprised his impression of President Bush for an SNL cold open. In doing so, he also lampooned the Republican field of presidential candidates. Brilliant.

2. Song and Dance for That All-Too-Familiar Ring-Tone

I don’t know what it is about this video, but it’s mesmerizing.

3. Duracell Star Wars Commercial: The Battle for Christmas Morning

I love everything about Star Wars–even the merchandising. This ad was especially well-done.

4. Back to the Future Day

October 21, 2015 was unofficially declared “Back to the Future Day” across America as movie fans marked the day that Marty McFly landed his fictional time machine in the future. The hashtags #BackToFutureDay and #BackToTheFuture were trending on Twitter as viewers riffed on themes and catchphrases from the iconic movie.

Perhaps the most memorable contribution to the meme was Jimmy Kimmel’s interview with Marty McFly and Doctor Emmet Brown. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd reprised their roles for the appearance, and it was really well done. It also included a cameo from Huey Lewis.

5. Trailers for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”

2015 will be remembered as a year of great anticipation leading up to the December 18 release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” A big part of the build-up had to do with a couple of terrific trailers firing the imaginations of Star Wars fans around the world. The two included here both came out in 2015 and were the best. Below these two is a 13-minute mash-up of all the trailers and clips that came out before the movie was released.

Teaser #2 – April 16, 2015

6. Boy Can’t Break His Own Karate Stick

I love this kid’s tenacity.

7. Guy annoys girlfriend with puns at Ikea

It has been said that puns are the lowest form of humor. I disagree. So does this guy.

8. The Theology of Trump

2015 was dominated by Donald Trump’s candidacy for President and his unconvincing appeals to religious primary voters.

9. Jamie Foxx and Jimmy Fallon Musical Impressions

10. Super Bowl Party Stereotypes

Honorable Mentions:

Grand Ole Party of Two

Downton Abbey with American Accents

Everything Cuter with British Accent

Police Officer Jams to “Shake It Off”

Fighter Jet Breaks the Speed of Sound
