Which presidential candidate (or potential candidate) is winning the race for Twitter followers? Here’s how the race shakes out among the current front-runners:
13,101 – Rick Perry
23,224 – Michele Bachmann
61,219 – Mitt Romney
611,357 – Sarah Palin
9,346,128 – Barack Obama
And here are the results for candidates polling in single digits:
12,916 – Rick Santorum
16,364 – Ron Paul
44,816 – Tim Pawlenty
50,745 – Herman Cain
1,326,025 – Newt Gingrich
As far as I know, this tells us absolutely nothing about who is actually winning the Republican nomination. Nevertheless, it is really interesting that Santorum and Pawlenty are losing to Herman Cain both in the Twitter race and in the real race. Newt Gingrich has over a million followers, and Sarah Palin has over 600,000. But I don’t think that either of them has a chance to win the nomination. The real polls are here.

Mitt Romney is the only candidate that I see in the field that has a chance to win ‘middle’ America’s support.
The others are all very colorful and interesting candidates, but . . . well, they appeal to their ‘base’ more than to ‘middle’ America,
which is how I think they want it.
