Programming Note: Luke’s Gospel in Prime Time

This is a programming note about a special television broadcast this evening. Tonight on ABC at 7pm (Central Time) there will be a one hour broadcast that culminates with the reading of Luke 2:8-14. The broadcast will consider the excesses of holiday commercialism and then conclude with the assertion that the real meaning of Christmas is to be found Luke 2:8-14.

This program might seem to be sort of an odd thing to find among the banal offerings of prime time television in 2007. But the broadcast is actually an annual event, and I’ll bet you’re already familiar with it. The program is called “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” I’ll be watching with my family as we decorate the tree tonight.

last year, after not seeing it on TV, we bought a copy on DVD. When my daughter is old enough to hold her head up on her own, I’ll make sure she sees it every year. That and Santa Claus Saves the Martians, which might be the most hilariously out Christmas movie of all time.

This has been my favorite Christmas special for a very long time. My wife and I own two copies of the DVD. That way we have one to loan to our friends & family members.

Anyone notice when Linus gets to “fear not” he drops his security blanket?

    Blessings!

We watched it last night as well and my kids were like, “They’re not very nice to Charlie Brown.”

    😉

Of course, of all the Charlie Browns in the world, he is the Charlie Browniest.

My kids watched it this week too, and after seeing it, they started treating each other really poorly.

Dad says that we’re done with Charlie Brown..that the kids are too mean to each other, and that it translates too quickly.

    Funny, isn’t it?
