On Friday, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said that he has not yet seen the video exposing Planned Parenthood’s trafficking body parts of aborted babies (see above). Earnest also says that he hasn’t talked to President Obama about the video and doesn’t know if the President has seen it.
A reporter then asks the bottom line question: “Does the President think that it is ethical to use the remains of aborted fetuses for medical research?” Earnest seems to deflect the question by referring reporters to Planned Parenthood and by saying he can’t comment on the inner workings of Planned Parenthood. But he does say that Planned Parenthood’s policies are consistent with the highest ethical standards.
Whether or not Planned Parenthood lives up to its own policies, Earnest doesn’t say. But he does seem to indicate on behalf of the President that the policies themselves are okay. I don’t think this is an ungenerous interpretation, given that Dr. Nucatola has been advising the Obama administration on family planning policy since 2010.
What the President thinks about this issue matters. It will definitely shape the public conversation. Reporters need to press this question until there is clarity. What does President Obama think about Planned Parenthood’s longstanding practice of trafficking the body parts of aborted babies? Does he think its ethical or not?
If only we had press that covered the White House and their full time job was to ask his administrations questions like this…if only.
Actually it wasn’t even the right question. You have to pin them down specifically without giving them an inch of wiggle room. Just saying that it was for research or donation whitewashes it too much. I think the question should have been worded more like this “Are you aware that PP may be profiting from the sale of organs from aborted babies? Is the president willing to call for an investigation, and defunding of this organization if it turns out to be true?”
He won’t respond to it, because it’s not in his interest to respond to it.
Freddie Gray? Speaking to that fits his agenda. Speaking on the 46 homicides in Baltimore after Gray died? Not part of his agenda.
He also uttered the words in a speech a year or so ago “God bless PP…..”
Exactly! He’s a radical follower of Saul Alinsky. Sheriff David Clarke had a blistering takedown of Obama saying that his reaction to the shooting of the Marines in TN last week resulted in a “shoulder shrug” from the president. He went on to say that it was because none of them looked like they could have been his son, the way the president said Treyvon Martin did. He may be on to something…
One imagines this would have been a good question to ask former Pres. Bush as well, considering it was legal during his two terms. I don’t recall it being asked then.
I’m still asking Regan “why” about no fault divorce law, but I suppose I should give up that fight….
Buddy that’s ridiculous! Bush lost me somewhere around 2006, but he was solidly pro-life, unlike Obama who voted four times in the Illinois State Senate to allow babies who survive abortion to be allowed to just wither and die.
Please vote PP supporters out of office. NOW!
