Sen. Paul’s filibuster about executing American citizens

As I write this, Senator Rand Paul is in his fifth hour of a filibuster. This is not one of those pseudo-filibusters that don’t involve actually holding forth. This is a real-deal filibuster, like “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.” Senator Paul is doing a Jimmy Stewart right now. You can watch the opening statement of his filibuster above. In short, here’s why he’s doing what he’s doing:

I will speak as long as it takes until the alarm is sounded from coast to coast that our Constitution is important. That your rights to trial by jury are precious, that no American should be killed by a drone on American soil without first being charged with a crime, without first being found to be guilty.

C-Span has a live feed of the filibuster, and you can watch it here.

I certainly support it. The only difference between Hitler and Obama is that Hitler actually murdered his citizens whereas Obama has only said he has the right to murder us. Well, unless we’re staffing one of the embassys in which case he won’t murder us but he’ll doggone sure allow us to be murdered.

Obama has never said he has the right to murder us. Please point out where this is the case. And yes, I am taking you literally at your word.

If you’re going to claim Obama allowed our Benghazi staffers to be murdered then why not go further and lay all our troop deaths in the field at his door. Surely a couple thousand is worse than 4. Or even further and blame him for every innocent child that dies from stray bullets in Chicago. Because he is ultimately responsible right? Yet, you go further and want to insinuate that he diabolically ignored or refused to help when he could have.

I don’t like defending the guy but some arguments against him just don’t meet the rational test.

If Obama claims he has the right to kill Americans on American soil with drone strikes, that is murder.

When Obama found out the Embassy was being attacked, he did nothing. Since the Embassy was attacked, an act of war, he has done nothing. Therefore, due to his innaction, he is responsible for those deaths.

Can you honestly say that drone strikes from the CIA, on American citizens, without due process IS constitutional?? Would you think otherwise if perhaps your brother was incorrectly identified as a terrorist, and was the victim of a drone strike? Or would you say that perhaps, his 5th amendment rights SHOULD protect him from such injustice?? Regardless of whether you think he is comparable to Hitler or not, at least take the time to look up the facts. Will Obama command a slaughtering of the Jewish race? Probably not. However, don’t be deceived into thinking he is on your side. Look at the facts my friend, and you will see whose side he is truly on. (Keep in mind, that this is the same man who bowed to the shah of Iran…)

Drew, I believe you’re referring to the King of Saudi Arabia and not to the Shah of Iran. The last Shah of Iran was deposed in 1979.

I find it amusing that if you google “Obama” + “bowing” you’ll see the President bowing to number of foreign heads of state. Perhaps it was a misguided attempt to honor them? After all, an American should bow before no man.

This is about taking a stand against the erosion of our constitution in the face of pragmatic ideology. Pragmatism (the one true american philosophy) has permeated everything. Our goverment, our foreign policy…even our religion.

Pragmatism= Go for “what works”. “Beliefs” will get you killed.

Some of you people here especially Joe B really hate President Obama!! It must be tough waking up each morning and he is still your President.

You know, Tommy-boy, it’d be much more entertaining to see you justify Hitl…I mean Obama’s supposed “right” to murder people using drones.

      And yes, I sure do.

      • James Stanton

When you say “right” to murder people using drones I assume you’re including the women and children who have died as collateral damage in drone attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“Hate” is a very strong word. If there is any of that in my heart toward Mr. Obama I pray the Spirit of Christ to remove it. Whenever I am reminded, I try to uphold him and all those in authority in prayer (1 Timothy 2:1-4), knowing that God has the heart of the king–or the president–in his hand. Having said that, I deeply oppose most of what Mr. Obama has tried to accomplish in office, consider his election and especially his re-election to have been calamitous in the extreme, and feel somewhat like an Israelite in ancient Egypt must have felt toward his Egyptian overlords. I take heart in that God can use even a stubborn Pharaoh to accomplish his good purposes for his people.
