I saw this Associated Press story on Albert Mohler’s link list this morning. If you aren’t careful about opening e-mail attachments, you will be after reading this. “Of all the sinister things that Internet viruses do, this might be the worst: They can make you an unsuspecting collector of child pornography. “Heinous pictures and videos can be deposited on computers by viruses — the malicious programs better known for swiping your credit card numbers. In this twist, it’s your reputation that’s stolen. “Pedophiles can exploit virus-infected PCs to remotely store and view their stash without fear they’ll get caught. Pranksters or someone trying to frame you can tap viruses to…

Call Your Congressman Right NOW!
Dear Readers, If you are pro-life, it is very important that you take a moment to call you Congressman to tell him or her to support the pro-life Stupak-Pitts amendment to health care. The House of Representatives will be debating the measure over the next few hours and will vote on it this evening. It’s too late to e-mail, you have to call. You can locate your Representative’s number here. The call will only take you a few minutes. The National Right to Life Committee regards this as “the most important House roll call on federal funding of abortion since the House last voted directly on the Hyde Amendment in…

What does the Bible teach about homosexuality?
I’m working today on a paper for the annual meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society, which is to be held in New Orleans on November 18-20. The title of my paper is “Why Evangelicals Should Ignore Brian McLaren: How the New Testament Requires Evangelicals to Render a Judgment on the Moral Status of Homosexuality.” While working on the paper, I came across a video featuring Robert Gagnon—a New Testament scholar who has written the definitive work on the Bible’s teaching about homosexuality. It’s pretty heady stuff, but I’ve posted the video above. If you’re interested in his book, you can buy it here: The Bible and Homosexual Practice: Texts and…

Multi-Site Churches
Dr. Albert Mohler hosted a panel discussion at Southern Seminary on multi-site churches. The panel consisted only of Baptists, so it was dealt with the multi-site phenomenon within a baptistic ecclesiological framework. Panel members represented a spectrum of opinion on this question: Single Campus/Single City/No Video Preaching – Greg Gilbert (Capitol Hill Baptist Church) Multi-campus/Single City/No Video Preaching – Kevin Ezell (Highview Baptist Church) and Daniel Montgomery (Sojourn) Multi-campus/Multi-City/Video Preaching – Greg Allison (Southern Seminary) Perspectives on Multi-site Churches (audio) [audio:http://www.sbts.edu/media/audio/fall2009/20091103panel.mp3]

Maine Repeals Same-Sex “Marriage” Law
Voters in Maine have repealed the law that would have allowed same-sex “marriage.” The Associated Press reports: “Gay marriage has now lost in every single state — 31 in all — in which it has been put to a popular vote. Gay-rights activists had hoped to buck that trend in Maine.” For me, this is the big news of this election day. If this measure would have failed, it would have been the first time for gay “marriage” to be supported by a popular vote. Also, it is significant that voters in two of the most liberal states in the country—California and Maine—have now rejected gay “marriage.”

Pro-life Conversion at Planned Parenthood
Watching an ultrasound of an abortion changed Abby Johnson forever. She is now prolife and has quit her job as director of the Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan, Texas. Johnson describes her conversion this way: “I just thought I can’t do this anymore, and it was just like a flash that hit me and I thought that’s it.” She also says that there was pressure on her to increase revenues for Planned Parenthood by increasing the number of abortions. She explains in The Houston Chronicle: “Definitely the most lucrative part of their business was abortions. One of the things that kept coming up was how family planning services were really…

Worst Case Scenario in Marriage
Boyce College professor Heath Lambert addressed the women of Southern Seminary at a recent Pendergraph Women’s Ministry event. He shows how Matthew 7:1-6 instructs women to deal with the “worst case scenario” in a marital relationship. [audio:http://www.sbts.edu/media/audio/BoycePodcast/20091027_pendergraph_lambert.mp3] Congratulations to Dr. Lambert who successfully defended his dissertation last week. It was written under the supervision of David Powlison.

Gay “Marriage” in Maine?
“Gay marriage has lost in every single state in which it has been put to a popular vote. Come Election Day, gay-rights supporters are hoping to make Maine the exception,” the Associated Press reports. This is set to be a close vote, one that activists on both sides say could go either way. We’ll be watching this one.

N. T. Wright’s Response for CT Article
Colin Hansen’s report in Christianity Today last week suggested that N. T. Wright’s writings have influenced some Protestants to become Roman Catholic. Roman Catholic convert Taylor Marshall puts it this way: “If you buy into Wright’s approach to covenantal theology, then you’ve already taken three steps toward the Catholic Church. Keep following the trail and you’ll be Catholic.” The CT article only had a snippet of a response from Bishop Wright. Trevin Wax has Wright’s full response here.

Largest Church Building Program in Modern History
First Baptist Church of Dallas’ plan for a new building is said to be “the largest church building program in modern history,” the Dallas Morning News reports. There is a website that shows the plans for the building, and you can see extensive video renderings of what the facility will look like. The videos also include an historical piece on George W. Truett and W. A. Criswell.
