Congratulations to Bama on a Great Win!

As an LSU fan, obviously I am very disappointed about the outcome of tonight’s game. But you have to give credit to Alabama for a dominating performance in the BCS title game. The bottom line of tonight’s game: Bama’s defense was suffocating, and LSU never got anything going offensively. LSU only crossed midfield one time. The swagger that LSU has had all season was missing tonight. Woulda coulda shoulda: Jordan Jefferson was in a funk. He couldn’t get the option going nor did he present a threat of passing the ball downfield. It was clear by the middle of the 3rd quarter that Jefferson was in a rut that he…

Paul Simon Talks to CT about John Stott and Evangelicals

This is a fascinating little tidbit from Christianity Today‘s interview with Paul Simon. [Paul Simon] decided he wanted to meet Stott, and a friend helped connect them. Simon called the theologian and offered to take him out for dinner. He said Stott told him he didn’t go out much anymore and instead invited the musician to his flat for tea and biscuits. “I’d say we spent two or three hours there,” Simon recalled. “I talked about everything that was on my mind about things that seemed illogical, and he talked about why he had come to his conclusions.” Simon was very impressed by Stott. “I liked him immensely,” he told…

Time To Get Your Game Face On!

LSU faces Alabama in New Orleans tonight for all the marbles, and it is time to put your game face on. My favorite hype video from this season is above. It was produced about mid-season, so some of the best highlights aren’t in it. But it is still the best one, and you need to put on your headphones or some good speakers to watch this video. There are a couple more videos below: (1) one of Coach Miles’ pre-game speeches and (2) LSU’s official hype video for the National Championship game.

Fired for Refusing to Let a Man Dress in Women’s Dressing Room

The department store Macy’s fired an employee who refused to let a man dress in a female dressing room. The employee, Natalie Johnson, watched the man enter the dressing room, so she told him that he needed to go the men’s dressing room. The man explained to her that he was transgender—which means that even though he is biologically male, he feels himself to be a woman. She was not budging and told him he could not dress on the female side. Macy’s subsequently fired Natalie Johnson. Asked whether she would handle the situation the same way if given another chance, Natalie said this: “There are no transgenders in the…

Driscoll Responds to Critical Book Reviews

CNN did an interview with Mark Driscoll about his new book Real Marriage. In the course of the interview, they asked him if he would like to respond to some of the negative reviews. Here’s the exchange: When asked to respond to his critics, Driscoll said he hadn’t read any of the reviews but that “sometimes reviewers will reveal more of their own struggles than actual problems with the book.” “I am not backing down from it. I am going to stick to my guns on it,” Mark Driscoll said. “This is not just stuff that I have pulled out of my mind. These are issues I have dealt with…

Was This Teen Mom Wrong to Kill an Intruder?

There are some stories that you hear that you know you’ll never forget. This is one of them. Sarah McKinley is 18 years old and the mother of an 18 month old baby boy. Her husband died of cancer on Christmas Day, and a couple days later she buried him. On New Year’s Eve, she was home alone with her baby boy when two men came to her door and began knocking. She recognized one of the men as someone she suspected had been stalking her. After she wouldn’t open the door, the two men started banging on the door, trying to find a way to break in. Sarah grabbed…

    The Days are Evil

Tim Challies tells the story of standing in the back of a church several years ago at an unbelieving friend’s funeral. It is a gut-wrenching moment, and the feeling he describes is something we should all feel more often than we do. He writes: I stood back there silent and ashamed and knowing that death is final and yet not final. I knew what everyone else there denied—that Mike was dead but alive. His body had died and was already returning to the dust. But his soul was alive and well. Or not well. Probably not well. As far as I know, Mike never turned to the Lord. He never…
