I commended Jim Hamilton’s new commentary on Revelation on Wednesday. You might be interested to see two other commendations—one from Paige Patterson and the other from Mike Wittmer: “In a day when most preachers appear to be terrified by the prospects of preaching any text beyond the third chapter of the Apocalypse, I find Dr. James Hamilton’s Revelation: The Spirit Speaks to the Churches to be an oasis in the wilderness. Though my own interpretation of the book is light years removed from that of Professor Hamilton, the purity of his love for Christ, for his church, and for the Word of God makes every page a delight to read…

Owen Strachan Explains Tebow Magic in “The Atlantic”
Owen Strachan has a fantastic piece about Tim Tebow and Divine intervention over at The Atlantic. It’s titled “Does God Care Whether Tim Tebow Wins on Saturday,” and you should give it a read.

Tim Tebow’s Fire
Back in the mid-80’s there was a really popular movie called “St. Elmo’s Fire,” and one of the songs from the movie soundtrack reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and received a Grammy nomination. The song was written and performed by John Parr and was titled “Man in Motion.” It’s quintessential 80’s fare, and there’s not a Gen X’er reading this that doesn’t know the song.

Jim Hamilton on His New Revelation Commentary
If you haven’t gotten a copy of Jim Hamilton’s new commentary on Revelation, now is the time to do so. This book is an excellent exposition of the text, and I commend it to you. I am grateful that Hamilton took some time to answer some of my questions about the book of revelation and his interpretation of it. My questions and Hamilton’s responses are below. ————————– What is the main point of Revelation? What is the genre? I think the main point of Revelation is that God will be glorified in salvation through judgment. The churches that John addressed were small and seemingly insignificant. The Roman culture in which…

GOP Candidates Seek Endorsement from Tim Tebow
This is no joke. Tim Tebow told the Associated Press that he has been approached by more than one GOP candidate for an endorsement. Here is the relevant portion from the report: Sensing the excitement and loving his message, Tebow is also being courted by Republican presidential candidates. The quarterback recently told The Associated Press he’s been asked by more than one of the contenders for his support. He wouldn’t name names, but did say he’d declined the offer. “I think you have to have so much trust in who you support, just from product endorsements to endorsing a candidate because if that person or company does something (bad), it…

Jeremy Pierre Reviews “Real Marriage”
Jeremy Pierre has a critical review of Real Marriage in Credo magazine, and like many reviewers he takes issue with chapter 10. Pierre is a pastor and biblical counselor, and he has a section that I think is particularly insightful. He writes, It is precisely the Driscolls’ apparent desire to stand against a sexualized culture that makes Chapter 10 “Can We ____?” so frustrating to read…

Congratulations to Bama on a Great Win!
As an LSU fan, obviously I am very disappointed about the outcome of tonight’s game. But you have to give credit to Alabama for a dominating performance in the BCS title game. The bottom line of tonight’s game: Bama’s defense was suffocating, and LSU never got anything going offensively. LSU only crossed midfield one time. The swagger that LSU has had all season was missing tonight. Woulda coulda shoulda: Jordan Jefferson was in a funk. He couldn’t get the option going nor did he present a threat of passing the ball downfield. It was clear by the middle of the 3rd quarter that Jefferson was in a rut that he…

Paul Simon Talks to CT about John Stott and Evangelicals
This is a fascinating little tidbit from Christianity Today‘s interview with Paul Simon. [Paul Simon] decided he wanted to meet Stott, and a friend helped connect them. Simon called the theologian and offered to take him out for dinner. He said Stott told him he didn’t go out much anymore and instead invited the musician to his flat for tea and biscuits. “I’d say we spent two or three hours there,” Simon recalled. “I talked about everything that was on my mind about things that seemed illogical, and he talked about why he had come to his conclusions.” Simon was very impressed by Stott. “I liked him immensely,” he told…

Time To Get Your Game Face On!
LSU faces Alabama in New Orleans tonight for all the marbles, and it is time to put your game face on. My favorite hype video from this season is above. It was produced about mid-season, so some of the best highlights aren’t in it. But it is still the best one, and you need to put on your headphones or some good speakers to watch this video. There are a couple more videos below: (1) one of Coach Miles’ pre-game speeches and (2) LSU’s official hype video for the National Championship game.

Fired for Refusing to Let a Man Dress in Women’s Dressing Room
The department store Macy’s fired an employee who refused to let a man dress in a female dressing room. The employee, Natalie Johnson, watched the man enter the dressing room, so she told him that he needed to go the men’s dressing room. The man explained to her that he was transgender—which means that even though he is biologically male, he feels himself to be a woman. She was not budging and told him he could not dress on the female side. Macy’s subsequently fired Natalie Johnson. Asked whether she would handle the situation the same way if given another chance, Natalie said this: “There are no transgenders in the…
