Do you remember seeing this for the first time?

Okay, Gen X’ers. How many of you remember the first time you saw “The Empire Strikes Back” and found out that Vader was Luke’s father? I remember that it was the talk of my elementary school. The kids who hadn’t seen the movie yet could hardly believe that it was true. How could our hero be the son of Lord Vader?!

If you can’t remember, maybe the video above will jog your memory. It pictures a four year old boy named Faris watching the end of “Empire” for the first time. His reaction is priceless.

    Dr. Burk,

I have every intention of having my son watch Star Wars in the IV, V, VI, I, II, III order just so he can experience this moment just like this boy.

I think it’s the way George intended anyways.

Lol, that’s classic. I remember sitting in the theater with my father when I was 14. I suppose the anticipation leading up to the new Star Wars movies were like the Harry Potter’s now. Oh but that disgusting and vile moment! It had to be a lie! It couldn’t be true! I felt as though I should wash after seeing it!

Worst decision George Lucas ever made. I know he says he had it in mind the whole time, but come ON. It was OBVIOUSLY an idea he had after Episode IV. Remember the conversation in Return of the Jedi where Luke asks Obi Wan what the deal was with Obi Wan saying Darth Vader murdered Luke’s father back in IV? Obi Wan says, “Oh, uh, I meant that when your father turned bad, the GOOD man IN him died. So that’s what I meant. I know it’s not logical. Don’t think it through too much.”

Only think… we would have been spared all three of those ghastly prequels if Lucas had just let Darth be Darth.
