John MacArthur’s The Gospel According to Jesus: What is Authentic Faith? was probably the most important, theologically formative books that I read as a college student. The Lord used that book in my life to free me from the “easy-believism” gospel that I had unconsciously imbibed from the pervasive cultural Christianity that surrounded me. Long before I ever heard MacArthur preach a sermon, I read this book. And it changed me forever.
For that reason, I am happy to hear that last weekend that Dr. MacArthur celebrated his 40th anniversary as pastor of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. What an important milestone in the life of that church and their pastor. I want to add my voice to the chorus of others in expressing gratefulness to God for this man’s ministry.
Rick Holland recently conducted an interview with Dr. MacArthur in which he reflects upon 40 years of ministry at Grace Church. The transcript of the entire interview is available here. You can listen to the audio below or download it here.[audio:http://webmedia.gty.org/sermons/High/90-371.mp3]

Dr. MacArthur’s work was so formative in my theological development in college as well.
Thanks for the post!
Would you elaborate on what you understand “easy-believism†is?
I, too, have been the grateful beneficiary of Dr. MacArthur’s teaching and preaching since becoming a believer in 1990. The Gospel According to Jesus was one of first books recommended by my discipler.
