Ted Kluck goes on a tear about the throw-back uniforms that Nebraska and Wisconsin were sporting Saturday night. As usual, he puts things in a way that only Ted Kluck can. He writes: I know there are sadder things in the world than the state of college football uniforms. I know that there is world hunger, human trafficking, and those Sarah McLachlan dog-rescue commercials. All of those things are sadder than Nebraska’s alternate uniform. But still, perhaps there are other ways for schools to show that they have such an ungodly amount of money that they don’t know what to do with all of it. I’ve included a few ideas…

- LA Tech Sitting Pretty; LSU Not So MuchMy alma mater tore it up again today. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs went to Virginia and beat them 44-38. Tech is now 4-0 for the first time since 1975. The win against Virginia is Tech’s second win over a BCS conference opponent. This is the fourth game in a row in which Tech scored over 40 points. They look like the real deal to me, and I believe they should be ranked in the top 25 this week. Looking down the road, Tech should be 5-0 with a top 25 ranking going into their game with Texas A & M in two weeks. And that’s a home game for us.…
- Owen Strachan Debates Rachel Held EvansOwen Strachan recently sat down for a debate with Rachel Held Evans on Justin Brierly’s UK radio program. Adrian Warnock joined in the discussion as well. The conversation recaps the recent dust-up involving Rachel Held Evans’ public rebuke of Jared Wilson and Doug Wilson. It also addresses the gender debate in general. I think that Owen has the better part of this argument. No surprise there! You can download the audio here or listen to it below. - Why President Obama Will Win ReelectionDoug Wilson is pretty convinced that Mitt Romney will pull off an impressive win against President Obama this November. Wilson is so sure of his prediction that he says, “If I were a betting man, which I am not, I would be willing to put a $25 steak dinner on it.” Well, if I were a betting man, which I am not, I would see his $25 steak dinner and raise him a $15 barbecue platter. I think President Obama is going to win reelection. Having said that, it’s important to point out that I’m no political professional. I’m just an amateur who follows these things pretty closely. So take…
- History of TV Theme SongsA big hat tip to Greg Thornbury for bringing our attention to this video. It’s Jimmy Fallon and friends doing a medley of old TV theme songs. Classic!
- Delaware the First State to Outlaw Spanking?Delaware just passed a law that looks to be problematic for parents that spank their children. Here’s what the law says: “Abuse” means causing any physical injury to a child. . . “Physical injury” to a child shall mean any impairment of physical condition or pain. Because the law defines “physical injury” as anything that causes “pain,” it appears that Delaware has effectively become the first state in the Union to outlaw spanking. The law goes on to say that anyone causing “pain” to a child under the age of 3 years could be charged with a felony. Here are the specifics from the Home School Legal Defense Association:
- Is the Stay-at-Home Dad a Man-Fail?Moody Radio recently hosted a debate about stay-at-home dads. Owen Strachan squared-off against stay-at-home dad Matt Peregoy and argues that the Bible commands able-bodied men to be the primary bread-winners for their homes. This is a fascinating discussion, and I think Owen does a fantastic job representing a complementarian position. You can download the conversation here or listen below. - Was C. S. Lewis a Calvinist?I think I missed this when it first came around. In the video above, Doug Wilson argues that C. S. Lewis was a Calvinist, and he makes the case from various selections from Lewis’ writings. I’m no Lewis scholar, but this sounds really novel and unlikely to me. I wonder if any Lewis-philes would offer an alternate perspective on this. UPDATE: John Piper just weighed-in saying that Lewis was not a Calvinist but now is. (HT: Dane Ortlund)
- McLaren Presides over Same-Sex Commitment CeremonyBrian McLaren caused quite a stir in 2010 when he announced in his book A New Kind of Christianity that he no longer believes that homosexuality is a sin. Many people were surprised by the news simply because he himself had called on evangelicals in 2006 to observe a five year moratorium on making moral pronouncements about homosexuality (see here). Yet in the book, McLaren not only made a moral pronouncement, he also chastised conservative evangelicals for their views on the matter.
- Anne Rice’s ApostasyIn 1998, the famous agnostic vampire novelist Anne Rice quietly converted to the religion of her youth—Roman Catholicism. The news of her conversion was fairly dramatic. The “I Am Second” campaign even featured her testimony in one of their videos (watch it here). In a recent video, however, Rice explains that she no longer believes in Jesus (see above). She doesn’t give much explanation as to why she no longer believes, but she does mention that her first steps away from faith happened in 2010 when she decided that she could no longer be a part of organized religion (read here). At that time, she left the Roman Catholic Church…
