Lin-sane in the Membrane

It has been my long-standing custom not to pay attention to NBA basketball before the playoffs start. But Jeremy Lin has changed that. I’m tuning in now along with the rest of the country. If you missed tonight’s game, it was another great performance (highlights above).

What a remarkable player, what an underdog, and what an inspiration for corny puns. They say that puns are the lowest form of humor, but that hasn’t diminished the corny punning on Lin’s name. In fact, many are finding quite hard to resist. Mark it down. I’m all Lin for the rest of the season. As long as he’s bal-Lin, I won’t be stall-Lin to see him take up his cal-Lin. You get the picture.

Okay, I’ll spare you anymore wisecracks. If you want to read something substantial about Lin, let me recommend to you Owen Strachan’s excellent piece at the Gospel Coalition, “The Basketball Star No One Wanted: Jeremy Lin’s Unlikely Triumph.

I wouldn’t say no one wanted him. Mavs wanted him when he was on their D-league team. Offered him a contract, but he wasn’t ready and they couldn’t promise him playing time because of Jason Kidd et al. So he signed with GSW thinking he’d get the chance to play sooner. Mavs recognized the potential before anyone else, wish he’d have taken up their offer.
