Rick Santorum’s Daughter Admitted to the Hospital

From the Philadelphia Inquirer: The three-year-old daughter of Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has been admitted to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the candidate has cancelled his Sunday morning campaign events to be at her side. Santorum campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley said Saturday night that the former Pennsylvania senator and his wife, Karen, were with Bella at CHOP. Gidley said Santorum planned to return to campaigning as soon as possible in Florida, where the Republican primary is Tuesday.

Kevin DeYoung on the Ironies of the GOP Race

Kevin DeYoung has a clever post the morning reflecting on what the GOP debates say about us as Americans. He really captures some glaring ironies that suggest how schizophrenic the American electorate really is. He writes: We want to be rich and want politicians who will promise to make us richer. But we don’t like our politicians themselves to be wealthy. We want candidates to give straight answers and not dodge hard questions. But when they give specific answers to hard questions their answers will be ridiculed as dull or will be held against them. We want our leaders to be super confident, super competent, and super intelligent. But we…

    An Uncomfortable and Awkward Question

Francis Beckwith asks conservative Christians an uncomfortable and awkward question: Are you prepared for America to have a First Lady who was a home wrecker and was once the President’s mistress (if Gingrich were to become President)? Beckwith presses the point because he was unsatisfied with Gingrich’s fiery answer to a character question in last week’s GOP debate in South Carolina. Instead of addressing a question about past infidelities, Gingrich opined about everyone knowing what it’s like to go through “personal pain.” Beckwith responds:

The Most Consistent Pro-life Candidate Speaks Out

In my view, Senator Rick Santorum has the most impressive pro-life record of all the candidates that are running for president right now. No other candidate comes close to competing with Santorum’s record or personal story on the issue of life. He is the author of the federal ban on partial birth abortion that President Bush signed into law in 2003 and which the Supreme Court upheld in 2007. Santorum is the father of seven children, the youngest of which is suffering from Trisomy 18 (see video below). He represented a very blue state for two terms as a Senator, but somehow he remained a consistent and tenacious advocate for…

President Obama’s Asinine Remarks on the 39th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Today marks 39 years since the Supreme Court handed down its infamous Roe v. Wade decision on January 22, 1973. That single Supreme Court decision nullified state laws across the country restricting abortion. Roe v. Wade made it possible for women to get legal abortions throughout all stages of pregnancy, and the decision has been upheld in the courts as the law of the land. As a result, the regime of Roe v. Wade has presided over 50 million legal abortions in the United States. It is difficult to comprehend the scale of this atrocity, but we must try. Hitler’s Germany killed 6 million Jews during the Holocaust era. The…

It’s Romney, Gingrich, or Santorum Now

Hugh Hewitt has a really helpful commentary on tonight’s South Carolina primary result. He says that the field has effectively narrowed down to three: “It will be Mitt or Newt or Rick. That is the choice now.” I agree with that analysis, although I believe Romney is still the frontrunner. Hewitt has another item in this article that I haven’t seen anywhere else, and I hope a lot of people take note of this. He writes:

A Few Thoughts about Speaker Gingrich

There has been a great deal of discussion about Speaker Gingrich’s rhetorical display in the first five minutes of the recent GOP debate. Gingrich’s response to John King was high drama, and he landed some punches on the “elite media.” It was quite impressive. But I agree with the remarks that Rick Santorum made right after Newt’s display. The question of character is relevant, and voters need to weigh it in the balance. Redemption is possible, and perhaps it has become a reality for Speaker Gingrich. But that does not make the Speaker’s past infidelities irrelevant to his candidacy. It may not be a disqualifying factor by itself, but it…
