If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, you know that I like to link to Christmas music about this time of year. One new Christmas album that just dropped this past October is Michael Bublé’s “Christmas.” The only downside to this album is that it has the song “Santa Baby” on it—which is, in my view, one of the most worthless holiday tunes every written. Having said that, the album is vintage Bublé with a holiday twist. If you like Bublé, then you’ll enjoy this record. You can listen to the album below, or download it here.

Give Thanks to the Lord!
Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, And give thanks to His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning. -Psalm 30:4-5

Chris Thile Teams-up with Yo-Yo Ma
I was a big fan of Chris Thile when he was the lead singer for the bluegrass-ish band Nickel Creek. In the video below, you can see that he has recently teamed up with Yo-Yo Ma on a new single titled “Here and Heaven.” The song is part of a larger project called “The Goat Rodeo Sessions.” I once heard Chris Thile and Nickel Creek perform live here in Louisville, Kentucky. It was a very secular venue and a very secular crowd, yet the band closed the show with one of the most beautiful renditions of “Be Thou My Vision” that I have ever heard. The band (including Chris Thile)…

Strachan Mixes It Up on the Her.meneutics Blog
Owen Strachan wrote a blog a couple of weeks ago critiquing the “Dad Mom” mindset that is often praised in popular culture. His article provoked a response from Laura Ortberg Turner at Christianity Today’s Her.meneutics blog. Turner contests Strachan’s reading of Titus 2:5 and Genesis 3:16 and argues that Strachan’s vision of manhood is not the same as Jesus’. She writes:

Newt Gingrich on the Wrong Side of Stem Cell Research
I have long thought that Newt Gingrich would never survive front-runner scrutiny were he ever to lead the pack. He has a checkered political past, and the media and his critics are not going to have any difficulty reminding everyone about it. Ramesh Ponnuru has a brief report about Gingrich’s record on embryonic stem cell research, and it is not good. On July 10, 2001, Gingrich called for President Bush to allow federal funding for this research. In Gingrich’s own words:

Bowl Championship Stinkfest
Okay, I confess. I wrote my last post before College Game Day was over and all the upsets were complete. With Oklahoma, Oregon, Clemson, and other one loss schools still out there, it seemed unfair to give Alabama a second shot at an unbeaten LSU. But that was before the top one-loss schools completed their stinkfest on Saturday.

Alabama Not Making a Good Case for Rematch with LSU
If Alabama is trying to make a case for a rematch with LSU, they did a poor job tonight. They gave up 21 points to Georgia Southern, a school that is not even in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the NCAA. Alabama is a great team, but they did not look like it tonight.

Tim Tebow is True Grit
The Broncos were 1-4 before Tim Tebow took over five weeks ago. Since Tebow has been starting, they have gone 4-1 to improve to 5-5 on the season. He’s turning their season around, but he’s not doing it with passing. He was only 9 for 20 in the air tonight for 104 yards, and yet it doesn’t seem to matter. He’s all heart and grit, and the guy just knows how to win. That game tonight—especially the finish—was just amazing. Watch the game winning touchdown above. As I mentioned when he started this run, Tebow still has a lot of folks rooting against him. They are not simply rooting against…
