Abortion Outrage

The abortionist’s office was like a slaughterhouse. At least that’s how one patient described the office of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortionist who was recently arrested for murder in Philadelphia (read the story here). There was blood on the floor and the operating table. Unlicensed workers with no medical training performed abortions, and in one case a high school student was put in charge of the procedure. Dr. Gosnell botched scores of abortion, delivered live babies, and then killed them with scissors to the back of the neck after birth. Gosnell is suspected of killing hundreds of live babies over the course of his 30 year career as an abortionist. This doctor made money hand over fist for many years, and in one of the years of his practice he earned 1.8 million dollars from killing these unwanted children.

In the video above, you see the outrage of the District Attorney at what Dr. Gosnell has done:

“I am aware that abortion is a hot-button topic. But as district attorney, my job is to carry out the law… A doctor who cuts into the necks severing the spinal cords of living, breathing babies, who would survive with proper medical attention, is committing murder under the law.”

The situation with Dr. Gosnell rightly causes any decent person to be outraged. But I see a fundamental inconsistency here. Why be outraged that a child is killed outside the womb but not inside the womb? What if the doctor hadn’t botched those hundreds of abortions and had managed to kill the baby while still in his mother’s womb? Why is there no outrage for the millions of children who are legally killed every day in just this way? What magical transformation happens to a baby as he travels from the womb to outside the womb such that killing him inside the womb is okay, but outside the womb is an outrage?

There are two outrages in this story: (1) the barbarism of this doctor who killed thousands of innocent human babies (and at least one mother), and (2) the moral indifference about the victims he killed while inside the womb. There is coming a day when both the barbarism and the indifference will be swept away. I’m praying it will be sooner than later. Maranatha.

This ‘doctor’s operating room sounds like what women experienced prior to Roe v. Wade,
often in places like the Caribbean.
One of our acquaintances in college went to the Caribbean for an abortion before Roe v. Wade, and came home in a casket.

God have mercy on us all.
    And yes,
    Come quickly, Lord Jesus.

Denny, it’s in reading stories like this that I really think the guy who wrote the Apocalypse of Peter was onto something.

I’m afraid a day is coming when our whole nation experiences judgment for this outrage. There isn’t as much difference between what this “doctor” does and what happens every day in PP clinics across the country.

    Denny,

I don’t know how to do a trackback, but I posted a link to your entry on my blog, and hope I did so in a way that meets with your approval.

I agree with the article’s point about the moral indifference and the inconsistent definitions of “life” in our society. I am also disgusted by this doctor and can’t believe it took authorities this long to catch him. What bugs me, however, (and I grew up in a Baptist church, practiced Christianity up until recently) is this throwing up of the hands, this desire for Christ to come back, for the world to end. If you want to go to heaven so badly, there’s always the option of killing yourself. While living in this world, though, isn’t it better to try to make a positive impact? Instead of complaining about all the bad that exisits and praying for Christ to return, why don’t you do something about it and recognize the good that exists along the way?

Christiane, I’m sorry for what happened to your friend. Nevertheless, the notion that legalized abortion has created an antiseptic and morally beneficial impact on moms, children and our nation is pure deception. It is the same lie that Abby Johnson believed until she saw the ugly truth of what happens in abortion clinics and Planned Parenthood facilities. If all Americans knew how ugly the “legal” abortion industry was, they wouldn’t put up with it.

I post an honest comment that challenges your narrow-minded views and you censor me. That’s exactly why I quit going to church. View life in black and white and refuse to think. Yeah, that makes it a lot easier.
