Kentucky Basketball Fans Duke It out at Dialysis Center

When I moved to Louisville, Kentucky from Dallas, Texas, it didn’t take me long to figure out that I had passed from football land to basketball land. It’s one of the main cultural differences between the north and the south. Once you get north of Nashville, football decreases, and basketball increases.

One of the consequences of this fact is that crazy sports fandom is at full bloom right now in the Bluegrass state. With Louisville and Kentucky facing each other in the Final Four tonight, it feels sort of like the state is mustering for a civil war. Everybody has already chosen a side, and they are crazy intense about their respective teams.

Case in point: The old rivalry descended into the absurd this week when two elderly men came to blows in a dialysis center over the upcoming Final Four faceoff. One man was 68, and the other 71. The police had to be called to deal with the scuffle. ESPN’s “Mike and Mike” discuss the incident in the video above. You can’t make this stuff up.
