Trailer Released for Movie about Bin Laden Manhunt

The movie is called Zero Dark Thirty, and it was originally slated to be released in October—just in time for the presidential election. But now the word is that it won’t hit theaters until December. Here’s a description of the film from Entertainment Weekly:

Zero Dark Thirty will be an unusual film in that the climax of the story is already widely known and it’s the set-up that remains mysterious. Bin Laden was killed on May 2, 2011 by the U.S. Navy’s elite SEAL Team Six, but what remains largely unknown is the true backstory behind the raid, and how intelligence agencies and the military connected the dots that eventually brought them to that compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Kathryn Bigelow—who won an Oscar for The Hurt Locker—directs this movie and claims that it is not a political statement. You can read an interview with her and her screenwriter here.

    Denny,

In the last two days posts about Baptists & Calvanism, not wanting to be associated with Westboro Ministries…. and a movie review??? Then before that many fervent posts about homosexuality and Chic-Fil-A? Where is the real stuff Christ would be interested in like the shooting at the Sikh Temple, the flash floods in Manila killing people… or how about just the fact that still 16% of Americans are living in poverty or that Kofi Annan has resigned as Syria envoy? I think the Prince of Peace would wish for us to think about just that… peace and how we can be ambassadors of it.

I think this is where I get very frustrated… too often religious folk want to talk about “fights” (Particularly… No Retreat, No Reversal, No Reviling) and would have us at least pay tribute to the things that actually affect His flock.

    Peace,

    Jake

Jake, ever notice what kind of posts get the most comments here? It’s always the ones having to do with culture war. We really don’t have much to say about mass shootings or that millions of Americans live in endemic poverty in the richest country in the world. Washington obsesses about the need to cut programs that help people and promoting endless war while doing nothing to alleviate severe unemployment. There is a moral corruption here and many turn a blind eye to it all.

I think Christ would be interested in all of it but a lot of what Christians end up fighting over is pure tribalism and political power.

If there are topics you want to read about, find blogs that comment on them. Come here for the culture war, go somewhere else for” pet issue B” and still somewhere else for “pet issue c”. That’s what I do.

All of the items you’ve mentioned are worthwhile, and I have some I could add that I’ve never seen commented on here, but it’s not up to Denny to comment on everything, least of all everything I want. It’s his blog. I check it out, read what I find interesting, and then move on.

Honestly, your criticism is unfair and poorly placed. This blog is about Denny’s thoughts on this and that – what happens to have caught his attention on a given day. I’ve never heard him say that it’s meant to be the definitive blog on the most crucial issues facing Christianity. I’m not a paying customer, I get this blog for free, so I don’t presume to critique or castigate Denny’s choice of topics. I don’t think you should either.

Keep it up Denny! I’ll keep coming.
