Do you remember the 9/11 story of the man who survived the collapse of the World Trade Center by “surfing” down from the upper floors on top of the rubble? I first heard that tale reported in the immediate aftermath of the attack. I remember thinking then that the story was far-fetched. Since then, the story has been written-off as an urban legend—an extraordinary fabrication stemming from extraordinary events.
The Discovery Channel recently produced a documentary on the real 9/11 surfer. His name is Pasquale Buzzelli, and he is now telling his story for the first time. It turns out that he was on the 15th floor on a stairwell when the building collapsed. Miraculously, he really did ride the rubble down and lived to tell the tale. The first video below is Buzelli’s recent appearance on “The Today Show” where he tells his story. The second video is a trailer for the Discovery Channel documentary about Buzzelli. Buzzelli has a book out describing his experience and the aftermath. It’s titled We All Fall Down: The True Story of the 9/11 Surfer.

Good story, but not sure we should believe it.

Me either. But the way it’s presented here gives some plausibilty that I never would have given it before.

i was skeptical at first too. but i watched the documentary last week and they interviewed the firefighters that rescued him from the rubble as well as others who knew he was at work when the towers collapsed. pretty compelling evidence presented….
