Study Says Abortion Can Lead to “Mental Illness”

A study out of Great Britain says that women who have abortions risk having emotional problems. Here’s an excerpt:

“Women may be at risk of mental health breakdowns if they have abortions, a medical royal college has warned. The Royal College of Psychiatrists says women should not be allowed to have an abortion until they are counselled on the possible risk to their mental health.

“This overturns the consensus that has stood for decades that the risk to mental health of continuing with an unwanted pregnancy outweighs the risks of living with the possible regrets of having an abortion.”

If you read the rest of this piece, you find out that what the story calls “mental illness” amounts to guilt and depression as a result of having an abortion.

The bad news about an article like this one is that there are not any real solutions given to women who are already dealing with the emotional aftermath of an abortion. The good news is that no matter how bad things may seem, the gospel of Jesus Christ offers healing and forgiveness to anyone (including grieving would-be mothers) who will receive it.

The separation is difficult for the mother obviously! Read all the studies talking about mothers just knowing things about their child before they realize it. My mom used to say that I’d start crying as a baby, and she’d be at my crib and holding me before she even realized it. Its not just a physical connection, its emotional and spiritual.
