What is the role of women in ministry?

Todd Wagner is the pastor of Watermark Community Church in Dallas, Texas. He was my pastor for several years when I was a student in seminary, and I am very grateful for his ministry. In the video above, he gives a quick answer to the question, “What is the role of women in ministry?” It is a concise, eight-minute summary of biblical manhood and womanhood, and I commend it to you.

Reaping the whirlwind of sexual idolatry

Yesterday I read an article in Vanity Fair about how social media has transformed the hook-up culture of millennials. The article is titled “Tinder and the Dawn of the ‘Dating Apocalypse.'” It is so sexually provocative that I am not going to post a link to it. While Jesse Singal has questioned Vanity Fair‘s reporting and the central claims of the article, Rod Dreher and Carl Trueman have both written some helpful reflections taking the article at face value. I have to confess that I did not know how Tinder and similar apps have amplified the possibilities for promiscuity. This technology has put the hook-up culture on steroids. If the…

The sixth video and the need for visionary prolife leadership

I have said many times that I am a single-issue voter. I do not believe that being right on any single issue qualifies a candidate for office. But I do believe that being wrong on certain issues can disqualify a candidate. And for me, abortion is one of those issues. If a candidate supports abortion rights, then he is disqualified from my vote as long as there are other alternatives in the field. Over 57 million people have been killed legally under the regime of Roe v. Wade. There is no question that abortion-on-demand is the greatest human rights crisis of our time in our country. That is why we…

Try not to think about the baby

Ruben Navarrete has written a riveting piece for The Daily Beast titled, “I Don’t Know If I’m Pro-Choice After Planned Parenthood Videos.” Navarrete says that he has been pro-choice since his college days 30 years ago. In a rather frank admission, he describes how he came to his position: I still consider myself pro-choice, as I have for the last 30 years. I staked out this position during my freshmen year in college. Even then, I understood the abortion debate was a tug-of-war between competing rights—those of the mother versus those of an unborn baby. I sided with the mother. And I tried not to think about the baby. Navarrete…

Senator Rubio makes pro-life case on “Meet the Press”

It is frustrating when pro-life politicians are unable to answer tough questions about abortion. There are very few who can defend the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. When asked about exceptions for rape or incest, their principles often go right out the window. That is why Chuck Todd’s interview with Senator Marco Rubio yesterday was a stand-out appearance. Rubio was principled, compassionate, and articulate. We need more of this from pro-life politicians. The other presidential candidates need to watch the video above and take notes. This is how you do it.

Target to move away from gender-based signs

Here’s the lede from a report on CNN.com that a reader just sent me: Attention Target shoppers: Say goodbye to “girls’ building sets” and “boys’ bedding.” The big box retailer announced Friday that it will start phasing out gender-based signage in some departments. The shift comes in response to customer feedback that distinguishing between products for girls and boys is unnecessary and maybe even harmful. Parents and gender equality advocates welcomed the news as a significant step with potential to inspire other retailers. We’ve gone from traditional gender distinctions being outmoded to being “harmful”? Is it really “harmful” for the Barbies to be in a different section from the G.I.…

Ross Douthat shreds the totems of sexual liberation

I’m convinced that The New York Times didn’t know what they were getting into when they brought Ross Douthat on as a columnist. He writes in a way that is deeply subversive to the values of sexual liberation. And you have to wonder if it troubles the editors to be standing so close to the woodchipper when Douthat shreds the totems of liberal orthodoxy like he did in his article yesterday, “There is No Pro-Life Case For Planned Parenthood.” In his essay, Douthat exposes the absurdity of the claim that Planned Parenthood’s abortion mills actually reduce the number of abortions in this country. You should read the whole thing, but…

Robbie George on Democrats and Planned Parenthood

After the Senate failed to defund Planned Parenthood, Robbie George explained why he had to leave the Democratic Party: Even after pro-abortion forces gained the upper hand in the Party in the 1970s (causing me and countless others to bolt) there remained a substantial and, for a while, far from powerless “Democrats for Life” caucus. Even as an Independent (I hadn’t yet joined the Republicans), I was proud to work for the Real Bob Casey when, as governor of Pennsylvania, he was the national leader of the pro-life Democrats. We worked with Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy, former New York Governor Hugh Carey (who had returned to the fold), liberal theologian…
