As you no doubt have heard, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments today on the question of gay marriage (audio below and transcript here). At issue is California’s 2008 law banning gay marriage, Proposition 8. A lower court has struck down this law duly enacted by California voters, and now the question is whether or not SCOTUS will uphold the lower court or overturn it.

How to keep single-minded devotion to Christ when travelling alone
Many a “faithful” man has gone astray while traveling . Perhaps for business or even perhaps for ministry, travelling alone and being away from home are riddled with temptation and opportunities for moral failure. That is why I love Garrett Kell’s outline of what he does to prepare himself spiritually for taking trips. In short, he tends to his family, purity, and ministry every time he travels. This essay is well worth the read, and you can do so here.

Ryan Anderson on MSNBC talking about Gay Marriage cases before the Supreme Court
Ryan Anderson is one of the co-authors of the watershed book in favor of traditional marriage What is Marriage? He is one of the most articulate proponents of traditional marriage, and he appeared on MSNBC over the weekend to debate the issue. The program featured Anderson versus three advocates of legal gay marriage. When Anderson was allowed to talk, he did a fantastic job. But what is interesting about this exchange is how little the host and the other guests let him talk. Anderson’s rebuttals were cut off, but his opponents’ rebuttals were not. It was very clear that this was not an equal time thing. Both the moderator and…

Young Conservatives for Traditional Marriage
From where I’m sitting, it seems like conservatives everywhere are folding like a cheap nickel-knife on the issue of marriage. Defections of the likes of Rob Portman and John Huntsman have convinced many that legal gay marriage is an inevitability and that traditional marriage is a thing of the past—a quaint notion that is dying out with the older generations that have until now held so steadfastly to it.

Which cable news network is the most partisan?
The Pew Research Center’s 2013 State of the News Media report has some interesting data in it. I would have assumed FOX News to be the network airing the largest percentage of commentary, but that is not at all the case. Of the three cable networks, MSNBC far outstrips the other networks in the percentage of its airtime that’s devoted to commentary. Here’s how commentary vs. reporting breaks down for each network: Network Commentary Reporting MSNBC 85% 15% FOX 55% 45% CNN 46% 54% CNN is the only one of the three that devotes the majority of its airtime to reporting the news. It’s also the network that lags far behind the…

God determines who is on the right side of history
Eric Metaxas addressed CPAC last week, and I believe he was like a voice of one crying in the wilderness. His speech was about religious liberty and its recent erosion under the HHS mandate and the push for legal gay marriage. He noted that many politicos within the GOP are rushing to “get on the right side of history” on the issue of gay marriage in particular. Then Metaxas then delivered what I think is a prophetic word that everyone needs to hear: God determines who is on the right side of history. Not the mainstream media and certainly not the government. I recommend that you watch and listen to…

Hillary Clinton comes out in favor of gay marriage
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton released a video today announcing her support for gay marriage. You can watch it above. She says that gay rights are human rights, and human rights are gay rights. Why the flurry of announcements from politicos concerning gay marriage? It has everything to do with the Supreme Court’s deliberations about gay marriage. The Court will hear oral arguments this month and will render a decision this June. Gay activist groups are doing a full-court press to get as many supporters on record as possible. The hope seems to be that the court will be swayed by these ringing endorsements. We will know whether their…

Rob Bell comes out in favor of gay marriage
On Sunday, Rob Bell spoke at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral and announced in no uncertain terms his support for gay marriage. Anyone aware of Bell’s career of late will not be surprised by this announcement. In his own words: I am for marriage. I am for fidelity. I am for love, whether it’s a man and woman, a woman and a woman, a man and a man. I think the ship has sailed and I think the church needs — I think this is the world we are living in and we need to affirm people wherever they are. The Huffington Post has a report on his remarks here. You…

Confronting Senator Portman’s use of scripture to affirm gay marriage
Last week Senator Rob Portman announced a dramatic reversal in his views on gay marriage. He cited a number of reasons, but the main catalyst was his son’s coming out of the closet two years ago. As a result of that revelation, Portman says he began to reconsider his own opposition to same-sex marriage. In an op-ed for The Columbus Dispatch, Portman explains: Two years ago, my son Will, then a college freshman, told my wife, Jane, and me that he is gay. He said he’d known for some time, and that his sexual orientation wasn’t something he chose; it was simply a part of who he is. Jane and…

Rubio beats a retreat at CPAC on traditional marriage
I like Marco Rubio. I really do. But did you see his remarks at CPAC today? If not, you can watch above. There was a brief moment that may have gone unnoticed by many viewers and by those in attendance. It was a subtle turn of phrase that I believe indicates a pretty momentous shift on the issue of marriage. Here’s the sentence: Just because I believe that states should have the right to define marriage in the traditional way does not make me a bigot. [at 4:40 above] Did you see it? At first blush it sounds like a pro-traditional marriage statement. And at one level it is. I’m…
