You know you’re at a cultural tipping-point when both Newsweek and Time magazine run cover stories on your cause within the span of a single year. Such is the case with transgender, which both Newsweek and Time have declared to be the next phase of the gay rights revolution. Transgender is the “T” in LGBT, but it is not a sexual orientation. It describes those whose perception of their gender identity does not match their biological sex. Whereas transgender used to be considered a condition to be remedied, the sexual revolutionaries are telling us that is no longer the case. Last year, the American Psychiatric Association removed it from its…

Will gay marriage destroy the GOP?
David Lampo serves on the national board of the Log Cabin Republicans—a group within the GOP that supports legal gay marriage. Lampo has a provocative piece in Politico today titled, “Gay Marriage Will Destroy the GOP: If conservatives don’t embrace the inevitable, they’ll become irrelevant.” His argument is simple. Courts are overturning state bans on gay marriage all over the country (which is true). A majority of Americans now support gay marriage (which is true). Young people across the country overwhelmingly support gay marriage (which is true). Support for gay marriage is on the rise even in the red states (also true). Republicans cannot win general elections if they continue…

“30 for 30” on Shawn Bradley
When I was in seminary, I was a night manager at the Dallas Mavericks’s practice facility. I don’t have many stories, but I do have a couple. I once fixed their shot clock with a butter knife. I also once tried to throw Steve Nash out of the facility during the 1998 NBA lockout. But I digress. The point of this post is Shawn Bradley. In the years that I worked at the facility, Shawn Bradley was a player. Do you remember him? He was the 7’6″ center who was supposed to change the game. He turned out not to be the dominant player that everyone thought he would be.…

The Rescue at Dunkirk
Today marks the 74th anniversary of the great rescue at Dunkirk. On May 27, 1940, the British army had fallen back to the beaches of Dunkirk in the north of France. In front of them was the German army, and behind them was the sea. These British soldiers and their French allies were the last line of defense between England and Hitler, and they were about to be crushed. There were over 300,000 of them trapped on the beach. What happened next is the stuff of legend. Some say it was nothing short of a miracle. In his biography of Winston Churchill, William Manchester narrates it best:

Where Same-Sex Marriage Stands in the 50 States
NBC News has a report explaining where same-sex marriage stands in the United States. There is good bit of information in this article, but I think this is the key line: Since last summer’s Supreme Court ruling on the Defense of Marriage Act and Prop 8, two historic marriage cases, not a single state marriage ban has survived a federal court challenge. This of course does not bode well for states that have lawsuits still pending. Those states are Utah, Oklahoma, Nevada, Texas, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan. The ground is moving beneath our feet. Read the rest here.

Majority live in states with legal gay marriage
This week, the advance of legal same-sex marriage passed a rather significant milestone. Both Oregon and Pennsylvania had their state bans on gay marriage struck down. For those who are counting, that makes them the 18th and 19th states respectively to recognize gay marriage. On his podcast this morning, Albert Mohler observes that a majority of Americans now live in states where gay marriage is legal. If you live in a state where gay marriage is not legal, you are in the minority. Mohler has some other salient observations on today’s “Briefing.” You can listen to the rest of it below or download it here.
