“60 Minutes” covers the Benghazi attacks

“It’s now well established that the Americans were attacked by Al Qaeda in a well planned assault.”     -Lara Logan, “60 Minutes” (October 27, 2013)

It is incredible that it has taken over a year for “60 Minutes” to do a hard-hitting report on the Benghazi attacks. I say better late than never. If you’ve been reading this blog for any amount of time, you already know what I think about it. The question is whether Americans care anymore. I hope they do.

Don’t miss this one. Watch above.

UPDATE, 11/8/13: CBS News has now had to issue an embarassing correction, saying that their main source in this story has proven to be unreliable. Watch the disavowal below:

Isn’t this the same CBS who edited out some fairly important parts of an interview with, I don’t remember which, either Obama or Hillary about Benghazi?

We must be far enough removed from any “important” election that now the media can report candidly…this administration is shaming themselves.

    Sigh…..

Denny, do you really expect anything less in a land of pagans? If we’re turly honest about it, how can we expect anything less? Granted, whether Americans should get involved in physical conflicts overseas is a completely different discussion. But in all seriousness, do these kind of shennanigans and nincompoopery surprise us anymore?

This was thoroughly litigated in the last election. I don’t understand the politicization of Benghazi. Terrorist attacks are always lamentable, but they should bring us together as Americans, not tear us apart. How many terrorist attacks did US military & intel forces suffer under Bush? Hundreds, no doubt, and that’s not even counting 9/11, when Americans of all stripes rallied to Bush’s side.

As I see it this was just another battle in the War on Terror, a war in which we lost 4 that day, but 8,400 since 9/12. There’s no one to blame here other than the terrorists.

My view doesn’t go as far as Denny’s, but yours is extreme in the opposite direction. You don’t have a problem with the White House having allegedly spun intelligence data to misrepresent the nature of the attack (i.e. blaming it on the video)?

Hey, Buddy, I guess I don’t see a “there” there. Obama called it a terrorist attack immediately in the WH Rose Garden. A few days later the CIA–whose installation it was–doesn’t want it said that terrorists attacked the facility b/cs they don’t want the terrorists to know we’re on to them & they want to protect sources & methods. Other agencies aren’t even sure who the culprits were. So, this sounds like a “Fog of War” kind of thing to me. At best the State Dept didn’t want to take the blame for a CIA screw up. And there’s nothing that implicates the White House. The tragedy is that 4 ppl died that day. What Susan Rice said on some talk show no one watches pales in significance. Americans are supposed to rally to one another in time of war. When this first broke I started out thinking the WH had spun actual events, but everything I’ve read since then contradicts that. If the House wants to impeach him over this they should just go ahead & do so and let’s have a real trial on the subject.

Well, the nation could return to a more isolation ideology when it comes to global policing instead of being on the imperialistic end of the spectrum. After all, we were and are pretty trigger happy when it comes to getting involved in things that are questionable at times…

Thanks, Denny. I watched the story when it aired and found it notable that the story of the political handling of the attack (Clinton’s “What does it matter now?”; Rice’s Sunday talk show talking points, Obama’s ambiguity on when he knew what) was left untouched. Let’s hope what was left implicit became explicit to the viewers.
