The cover of the most recent Time magazine has a full-size picture of Marco Rubio and dubs him “The Republican Savior.” Senator Rubio tweeted a response today, and it is classic. He writes:
There is only one savior, and it is not me. #Jesus
There was once another politician who responded very differently to such acclaim, and the outcome wasn’t so good for him (Daniel 4:29-37). So this is a very good response from Senator Rubio. It’s exactly what he should have said.

Well, he could have said “There is only one savior and I am not him. #Jesus”

I had seen the magazine cover but not his response. That makes me think even more highly of him. BTW, he was my choice for Romney’s running mate, but now I’m kind of glad he wasn’t chosen (refused to run?) so he doesn’t have the albatross of a lost election hanging around his neck. I think he would have been better than Ryan, but it wouldn’t have made enough difference to swing the election.

Do we have any response from President Obama regarding the Newsweek cover declaring “The Second Coming” and other Messianic statements regarding him? http://christiannews.net/2013/01/21/newsweek-hails-obama-as-messianic-second-coming/

I can’t help but think of Jamie Foxx calling Obama his Lord and Savior. He [Foxx] didn’t back down from that.

I think Rubio is just another politician saying what he needs to say to his base. Maybe he means it; maybe he doesn’t, but I’ve seen way to many politicians who use Christianity as a political tool to take anything any of them say very seriously.

Here’s some more info on his religious background:
http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2012/02/23/sen-marco-rubios-religious-journey-catholic-to-mormon-to-catholic-to-baptist-and-catholic/?hpt=hp_t3
That’s the article from which the info on his wikipedia page comes. I wonder how the folks at the Baptist mega-church he attends feel about this statement from 2012:
“I’m a Roman Catholic. I’m theologically in line with the Roman Catholic Church. I believe in the authority of the church…”
