Jeff Goodman at FOXSports.com reports that Karl Malone may be headed back to his alma mater (and mine) to coach basketball. Goodman writes:
Kerry Rupp, who is expected to be officially introduced later this week as Louisiana Tech’s new head coach, is close to bringing former Bulldogs and NBA star Karl Malone on board as an assistant coach.
FOXSports.com has learned that the 43-year-old Malone, selected as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA history and a two-time league MVP, is seriously considering joining Rupp’s coaching staff.
Malone was chosen with the 13th pick in the 1985 NBA Draft after a three-year career at Louisiana Tech in which the Bulldogs were 74-19. Louisiana Tech went to the Sweet 16 in 1985.
I’d love to see Malone take the Bulldogs to the big dance again. Whether or not he’s the man to do it remains to be seen. In any case, I’ll still be pulling for my beleaguered Dawgs!

Whoa! This would be awesome… If only he could take over the Techsters… Now THAT would be something to really get excited about! They stunk it up this year…

As a fellow techster, I think this a great move not only for the school but for the Mail-man himself. I have always believed that professional athelets should coach for a few years after they retire from playing. The knowledge that could be passed along would be pricless. I might even travel back to Ruston to watch a few games.
