Don’t laugh. The last time an actor ran for President, he won and became one of the most beloved politicians in recent history. His name was Ronald Reagan.
It’s not out of the realm of possibility for Senator Fred Thompson (who currently stars on “Law and Order”) to be elected President in 2008. Where is he on the issues? The summary from the Associated Press says that Thompson . . .
—Is “pro-life,” and believes federal judges should overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade abortion rights decision as “bad law and bad medical science.”
—Opposes gay marriage, but would let states decide whether to allow civil unions. “Marriage is between a man and a woman, and judges shouldn’t be allowed to change that.”
—Opposes gun control, and praised last week’s 2-1 federal appeals decision overturning a long-standing handgun ban. “The court basically said the Constitution means what it says.”
—Supports President Bush’s decision to increase troops in Iraq. “Wars are full of mistakes. You rectify them. I think we are doing that now,” he said. “We’ve got to give it a chance to work.”
—Would pardon former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby’s conviction for perjury and obstruction of justice now, rather than waiting until all his appeals are exhausted.
I’m not saying I’d vote for him. I don’t know enough about him yet. But it would be interesting to see him make a go of it.

Denny, I heard him on talk radio twice this week and heard his sound bites from the Sunday TV shows. I like what he has to say, clear on issues, conservative views. I think he is waiting for a ground swell of GOPers to pull him into the race. I fear he will get into it too late and without the fund raising to compete. The way the process is going he should declare now. According to New Max it’s Rudy’s to lose now. I’m not a Rudy fan but compared to the other side there is no choice. Maybe a Fred Thompson would be a great VP for a Rudy run. As Mr. Thompson said the conservative base is looking for the next Ronald Reagan and there will only be one. Right now he sounds a lot like the great R. Reagan.

I love what I heard from Hugh Hewitt the other day on the radio in addressing the lack of a “true conservative” that is electable. He said that we should not turn into the democrats and vote based on whom we think will win. We should vote based on our convictions. I see and hear many Evan’s settling for Rudy, Romney, or McCain. In my humble opinion, ALL three do NOT have the same interests or view of any serious evangelical. If we think Rudy is going to set his views aside and represent the party, we are kidding ourselves, that’s like Hillary coming out as she has and tried to look more moderate…laughable….
I Heard Mr. Thompson on the radio and he speaks like a normal person and is not afraid of stating his views plainly, not jockeying every word to make sure it his all demographics and interests. He says what he is thinking and I like that. Not to mention his views are good so far.
Again in my opinion, He is the first glimmer of hope for conservatives so far this election cycle and he has the presence and the ability to state his views plainly which is definitely a breath of fresh air in the current political atmosphere.

To D. Taylor Benton: I agree with you 100%. I hope he does run but I think it will be late in the game. I hope I am wrong but the money may not be there the later he waits.
Matt
It’s not too late, and my guess is Thompson understands this. By using the internet, a candidate can raise gobs of money in a very short time. I’d vote for Thompson in a heartbeat.
Don
Matt, I hope your right. I’d vote for him too!

A clear voice? A voice of conviction? Unlike what we are hearing today from mamby-bamby RINO’s hiding under wolf skins. The present group of RINOS’S ARE FAR TOO worried what the various voting blocs would or could do if they tell the truth about how they truly feel, about our social ills, and the WAR. I want victory over terror, I don’t want bombs going off in our shopping centers or schools. I want victory. I don’t give a hoot if our winning hurts the feelings of our weak kneened NATO chums. France perhaps, Germany, the Swiss? I want a conservative running the country. Welcome Fred I vote for you.And so will my entire family.
