Philemon Yong was born and raised in the Kom tribe of Cameroon, Africa. You may remember him from the message he delivered at Desiring God’s 2003 conference for pastors. Philemon is now a missionary with the group “Training Leaders International” (TLI), an agency whose mission is to bring theological education to pastors all over the world (their advisory board includes John Piper and D. A. Carson).
Philemon is the Director of School Planting and Curriculum Development at TLI, and that work includes starting theological schools and training centers in places around the world that do not have them. Last year, he was instrumental in beginning training centers in Athens, Greece and Atibaia, Brazil and Iasi, Romania. Between travelling, writing, and taking care of his family, he’s got a lot of irons in the fire.
I know Philemon because back in the day we were Ph.D. candidates together under Tom Schreiner. It has been a joy to partner with him in his ministry over these many years. Perhaps you are looking for someone to partner with for the global cause of Christ. If so, maybe you would consider supporting Philemon’s work with TLI. As you may know, there is a great need to get the gospel and theological training to underserved areas, and you can be a part of that great work. You can do so by clicking here and supporting Philemon and his family.
The video below is from Tom Stellar, a pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Minneapolis and a board member of TLI. In the video, Stellar shares a brief testimony about Philemon and his work before coming to TLI.
