I want everyone to be clear about what is happening right now to our nation’s leading breast cancer charity— Susan G. Komen for the Cure. They are being mugged by pro-abortion zealots who will not tolerate any criticism whatsoever of Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading provider of elective abortions.
Komen has given some grants to Planned Parenthood in the past but has now decided it can better spend its money by funding groups that actually provide mammograms. Planned Parenthood has some educational services related to breast cancer, and they give referrals for mammograms. But they don’t do mammograms themselves (see video below). Komen CEO Nancy Brinker said it this way, “We were giving them money; they were sending women out for mammograms. What we would like to have are clinics where we can directly fund mammograms.” That Komen would reconsider giving grants to Planned Parenthood is no surprise. It was a strategic decision, and a good one at that.
Yet the response from liberals and their cohorts in the media has been stunning. They have excoriated Komen’s decision as bowing to pro-life pressure to dissociate from Planned Parenthood. I would like to think that pro-lifers have such influence over an enormous charity like Komen, but I doubt that they do—despite the congressional investigation of Planned Parenthood that critics keep citing.
In any case, I don’t think the facts matter at this point. Pro-abortion zealots are trying to weave a narrative to the public so that they can portray Komen as the bad guy. They want Komen to either change their standards or feel the wrath of millions of pro-abortion donors who will no longer support Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Yes, you heard that right. The pro-abortionists are so committed to their sacrament of abortion and to their temple of Planned Parenthood, that they would rather see the breast cancer charity die than lose funding for their abortion mills. That is a sick and distorted calculus, but there it is.
By the way, Komen’s grants were but a drop in the bucket of Planned Parenthood’s annual budget. Planned Parenthood’s budget is about one billion dollars. Komen’s grant last year was $680,000. The attempt to smear and destroy our nation’s leading breast cancer charity is all about a fraction of a percent of Planned Parenthood’s annual budget (.068% to be exact).
Planned Parenthood and their allies in the media are in open war right now with Susan G. Komen for the Cure. I hope Komen can stick to their guns on this one.

I’m wondering why the Komen foundation made the cutting off of Planned Parenthood public. Especially since they had to know that their grant was only a drop in the bucket. They certainly did themselves no favors, PR wise. Make a few Southern Baptists happy, make their core donation base upset. I doubt the SBC will be making an effort to make up for the lost revenue.

It really is a clash of worldviews and PP wants to demolish anything that does not agree with theirs. There is an obvious reason why. If they are wrong, they are dead wrong about what it means to be human.
John
I think you just about nailed it here.

Exactly right, Don. PP has been rotten to the core in its mission and deeds since the racially motivated Margaret Sanger opened its doors. Very little has changed in the 91 years it has been operating except that it now has much more powerful interests in Washington DC (and now the White House) protecting and advancing their deceptive and horrific agenda.

Paul,
They didn’t need to make it public. PP spends a fortune on PR. In the short term, then, there was going to be bad PR. However, over the long term, conservatives give more to charities than do liberals. They were losing donations because of their affiliation with PP, and will ultimately gain by severing that tie.
The liberals announcing their boycott, and the unthinking pro-choicers vomiting PP’s talking points of Facebook, don’t give money to charities. Most of them are in college, or are retired old hippies. Planned Parenthood gets most of its money from abortion services and the government.

Have you seen this?

If its valid it would seem to imply that nobody is missing out on mammograms. It’s also worth noting, from a statistical perspective, the screening that would potentially get cut isn’t all that effective anyway. On that, this is the best resource: http://j.mp/z5KIKM

Yes. Did you notice that the video is linked in my post? 🙂

I realize the link I shared has the same video, so I’m assuming you’ve already seen it, the statistical evidence though is still pretty interesting and seems to say that even if PP offered mammograms, having that cut isn’t as big of a deal as they might imply that it is

Hey, Nate! Sorry about that. I thought you were talking about the video. Thanks!

Yeah I posted the link a bit hastily, sorry about that!

I am not sure if I could detest the U.S. national media more than I do now.
The abortion lobby is reacting like godless fiends panting with bloodlust, which is the very opposite of surprising, but even through its championing of Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign, the national media was not this shameless in covering a story. And covering is the word, because they certainly are not reporting the story. They are covering any facts or figures that do not conform to its strict advocacy of Planned Parenthood.
The title of the post is fitting. Abortion is their sacrament indeed.

It’s also worth mentioning that SGK has cut off funding for Embryonic Stem Cell Research:

the title of your post is more true than you may realize!
growing up in houston we would drive to hobby airport and pass the “cash register building” which was at the time a bank – literally shaped like a cash register – clever.
This building was sold to PP and is now the largest abortion clinic in the northern hemisphere – the tragic and unintended irony is that it is still shaped like a cash register.
last year at a pregnancy center banquet here I heard bruce wilkinson make reference to abortion as a sacrifice to molech = babies for financial gain. All I could think of was the cash register.
I believe that molech is indeed who these precious children are still sacrificed to – and his altar is cash register shaped.
