LSU did not look very good tonight. They had 14 penalties for 149 yards, and Matt Flynn threw three interceptions, two of which led to Alabama scores. It was ugly, but a win’s a win. We’ll take it any way we can get it.

Pastor Charged with Criminal Discrimination against Female Pastor
Christianity Today has a story about a Finnish pastor who is being charged with criminal discrimination against a female pastor: ‘A Finnish district court prosecutor recently charged a member of the Finland state church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland (ELCF), with criminal discrimination for refusing to work with a female pastor. Two other church leaders have also been charged for not interfering to prevent the alleged violation.

The Halloween Debate
I just finished watching the Democrat Debate for President on MSNBC, and I think it will go down in history as the “Halloween Debate.” Why? Because some of the things that were said were downright scary. Not only did Dennis Kucinich confess that he believes in UFO’s, but he also claimed that he has seen one! We have a candidate for President who believes in UFO’s! Now that’s spooky, but that’s not even the scary part. He also said that America should unilaterally disarm its nuclear arsenal because it would encourage Iran to stop seeking nuclear weapons. Alvin Plantinga Lectures at Southern Seminary
One of the things I greatly enjoyed about Southern Seminary was its lectureships. There are several endowed lectureships at Southern, and I had the opportunity to hear and meet some great scholars during my time there. Last week, Dr. Alvin Plantinga delivered the Norton Lectures at Southern Seminary, and they are now available online for free download. Dr. Plantinga teaches at the University of Notre Dame and is perhaps the leading evangelical philosopher alive today. You will want to listen to all of these.

The latest issue of Touchstone magazine has a forum in which a diverse group of Evangelicals answer questions related to the state of Evangelicalism today. I am a contributor to this discussion along with Russell Moore, Michael Horton, Darryl Hart, John Franke, and David Lyle Jeffrey. The article is posted online, and you can read it here. NY Times: Wrong about Evangelicals, Right about Giuliani
David Kirkpatrick of the New York Times writes an interesting piece about the “The Evangelical Crackup.” The article focuses on the shifting political allegiances of evangelical Christians in America. His contention is that the Christian conservative voting bloc is about to fall apart and go the way of the dinosaur. Although I think Kirkpatrick’s understanding of the evangelical movement is seriously deficient, he has one think right. If Rudy Giuliani becomes the Republican nominee for president, there will be a tectonic shift in the Republican party. He writes:
