Matt Lauer has an exclusive interview with President George W. Bush that will air tonight at 8pm ET / 7pm CT. The interview is timed to coincide with the release of President Bush’s memoir Decision Points, which hits the shelves tomorrow (3am tomorrow morning if you’re downloading to Kindle). Ultimate Football Fake Out

The Driscoll Middle School football team in Corpus Christi, Texas pulled off an incredible trick play over the weekend, and the video is becoming a YouTube sensation. As Hannibal Smith would say, I love it when a plan comes together!

    LSU Rolls-over the Tide

If you missed LSU’s victory over Alabama today, you missed a good one. I’m still astonished that LSU figures out how to win these tough, tough games. After the loss to Auburn a couple of weeks ago, I wasn’t very optimistic about this game. But somehow, they did it. Jordan Jefferson actually completed some passes today, and LSU’s offense came up with a couple of bursts when they needed it in the second half. What I saw today proved that if LSU had a consistent quarterback, they would probably be number one in the nation. But then again, if a frog had wings, he wouldn’t bump his bottom when he…

    How To Translate Romans 1:17

I just answered the following question at the “Perspectives in Translation” forum: “How Should a Translation Render Rom. 1:17?” My answer is an interaction with Doug Moo’s contention that a “literal” translation of Romans 1:17 is impossible. I disagree with Moo, and you can read why here.

Struggling as a Homosexual and a Christian

I really appreciate Tim Challies’ review of Wesley Hill’s book Washed and Waiting: Reflections on Christian Faithfulness and Homosexuality (Zondervan, 2010). Wesley Hill is a Christian who has a homosexual orientation, and he has been that way for as long as he can remember. Here’s a snippet from Challies’ review: ‘Washed and Waiting: Reflections on Christian Faithfulness and Homosexuality is his attempt to answer some of the most difficult questions, and to answer them not in an abstract sense, but from the perspective of someone who has labored over them and shed many tears along the way. What does it mean for gay Christians to be faithful to God while…

Kentuckians, are you ready to vote?

Millions of Americans will go to the polls tomorrow for the mid-term election. By all accounts, this election will likely cause a sea change in the U.S. House of Representatives and perhaps in the U.S. Senate. Many voters have some knowledge of these high-profile national races, but many of those same voters are unaware of the candidates and issues at stake in local and state races. I received an e-mail tonight, for instance, asking me if I knew anything about the candidates running for judge in our city. If you are in this position and you are a Kentucky voter, I want to direct you to the Courier-Journal website. The…

    The Release of NIV 2011

The online version of the NIV 2011 was just released this morning, and the video above is the chairman of the translation committee, Doug Moo, offering an introduction to its release. The translation committee has produced a number of materials that readers will want to consult: an executive summary, translator’s notes, and the text itself. A word is in order about why Zondervan is putting so much into the release of the NIV 2011. The last two attempts at revising the NIV were met with a great deal of controversy. The first attempt was the NIVI, and the second was the TNIV. Both revisions were controversial because they adopted a…

The Implosion of First Baptist Dallas

The video above shows the implosion earlier today of four downtown buildings that belong to the First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. The buildings were demolished to make way for its new worship center, education facilities, parking garage, glass concourse, and sky bridge. The three men who detonated the explosives are Pastor Robert Jeffress, Mayor Tom Leppert, and Planning & Development Committee Chairman Mark Lovvorn. [Historical note: The high-rise in the background of the church’s steeple in the final scene is Lincoln Plaza, where Dick Cheney worked for Haliburton before becoming vice-president of the United States.] What came down this morning was massive. What will go up in its place…

    President Bush’s Memoir

I am eagerly anticipating the release of President George W. Bush’s memoir on November 9. It’s titled Decision Points, and it’s already available for pre-order on Amazon.com. In the promotional video above, President Bush offers a glimpse of what is to come. Earlier today, however, an anonymous source leaked the manuscript to Matt Drudge who has given even more details about what the book will contain. Drudge writes:
