Blockbuster Files for Bankruptcy

We all knew this was coming, but it’s still astonishing to witness. With RedBox and NetFlix, Blockbuster just isn’t the ubiquitous part of American life that it used to be. When is the last time you went into a Blockbuster? I can’t remember the last time I went into one. Read the LA Times report here.

Recall that the FTC forbade BB from merging with Hollywood Video just 5 years ago, as BB “had too much power already”.

How far the mighty have fallen! Why do I recall the poem Ozymandias?

    My experience with Blockbuster:

    1) Expensive, 2)Excessive late fees (and wrongly charged multiple times), 3)Poor customer service, 4)No streaming (or at least too little too late).

I don’t even pay for cable. NetFlix has more than enough to keep our family happy. I don’t like to see brick and mortar stores dry up but the free market, even including people who wear John Lennon glasses and drive VW buses, demands that you lead, follow, or get out of the way.

We stopped going there years ago because they mixed in the terrifying and titillating with the childrens’ stuff. We mentioned it a few times, and got some seriously blank stares.
