Can I get an “Amen”?

After Rick Perry announced his candidacy for President earlier today, he gave himself an “Amen, brother”! Watch above.

What do you think about this, Denny? About Perry for President (not about the “amen, brother,” which was quite funny!)

John, I think he overreaches with his states-rights views, which I’ve criticized him for in previous posts. I also think he may have some splainin’ to do about suggestions he’s made in the past about Texas seceding from the Union.

Having said that, he is a welcome addition to the field. He’s solidly pro-life and pro-marriage, which are two very important issues for me.

I remain unconvinced by his back-pedaling on the New York comment. He said expressly at the time that people should “stay out of their business,” but he later said, “Well, I was just referring to the current state of law.” Sorry, but “stay out of their business” sounds like more than that.

It might be a part of his ‘states’ rights’ philosophy to tell people to stay out of New York’s business. . . who knows ? Too soon to figure where he is coming from yet on the national stage.

Gov Perry was looking at someone in the crowd when he said “Amen brother” so not sure why anyone finds that amusing except some are predisposed to find something to laugh at along with people like Chris Matthews. Maybe the liberal blogospere will pick up on your amusement.

The secession comment has been widely taken out of context. Someone should research it before making comments. Again the liberals are widely trying to push this meme.

The States have always made laws regarding marriage ie waiting periods, age…… to make a national law regarding marriage would require a constitutional amendment which is what Gov Perry has said he would support. Until the constitution can be changed States where the people are allowed to vote on marriage have overwhelmingly voted against it – even California. Most conservative legal authorities believe the current Supreme Court will determine that marriage is an issue to be determined by the States unless or until a Constitutional Amendment is passed.

Yeah, I think that was directed to somebody in the audience.

The thing about Perry is that he’s very likable, very down-to-earth and pushes a lot of good “buttons” for conservatives—all of which I don’t really have a problem with. It’s just that he doesn’t seem like a culture fighter in the ways we most desperately need right now. He strikes me as a throwback to Bush II in a lot of ways, which is partly fine and partly unsatisfactory.

“He strikes me as a throwback to Bush II in a lot of ways, which is partly fine and partly unsatisfactory.”

As a Native Texan, I must wholeheartedly disagree with this statement. Perry and Bush are much more adversarial than you might know. I would direct you to this article if you would like to find out more: http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/274725/let-perry-hatred-begin-rich-lowry

I, for one, am very excited about Governor Perry’s potential as President!
