Tebow after the Big Loss to the Patriots

How does Tim Tebow respond after a big loss on a big stage? Does hope spring temporary when the victories cease? No, it doesn’t. Immediately after leaving the locker room after the game, here is how Tebow’s conversation went with a reporter from NFL.com when all the cameras were off:

“How is the strength of your faith impacted after a loss?” I started.

“It puts things in perspective,” Tebow said. “God is still God. I still have a relationship with Christ, and a loss doesn’t change anything. Win or lose, everything is still the same. What matters is the girl I’m about to see, Kelly Faughnan. If I can inspire hope in someone, then it’s still a good day.”

And just like that, with a transition smooth enough to make a movie producer proud, Tebow crossed through the threshold of a doorway to the glowing face of a 22-year-old survivor of a brain tumor. After one question, the interview was over. A more important priority awaited him.

    And yet, an important question.

Many professing believers would be doing some soul-searching in his shoes, just as many do when awaiting surgery or following the loss of a job.

All those situations deserve the same response that Tebow gave on Sunday, and we all need to be reminded of that from time to time.

Besides, how is the reporter to understand Tebow and his faith without asking a question like that?

Why should we expect an unbelieving reporter to understand Christianity? And why should we begrudge him the opportunity to be exposed to real Christian life and faith.

For the record, I think it was a good question, if only because so many NFL players who claim to be believers don’t have an answer the day after a tough game.

Perhaps you are right and I was expecting too much. Still, maybe part of the reason it felt silly was because the Broncos went into the game knowing chances were they would lose anyway. So the result was expected, Tebow-mania notwithstanding. And Tebow himself knew it. However, from what I understand not being familiar with football, it was a messy game with a lot of fumbles on both sides.

    Denny,

How long are you going to keep adding to the mania? I’m getting Tebowed out by your blog!

Roy Helu from the Redskins had an article about him and his faith- why not link to him?

Even Roethlisberger has some interesting things to say about his faith- he even referenced Tebow- why not link to that?

    Tebow hysteria continues…
