Obligatory Superbowl Post

I have one word to describe the Giants’ victory over the Pats. Un-stinking-believable!

How did the Giants win? You might say that the Giants’ defense neutralized Tom Brady’s offense. Or you might say it like Emmet Smith did in ESPN’s postgame analysis: “That defense got after Tom Brady’s behind today.” They really did. Tom Brady hasn’t been hit that hard and that often in any other game of this season. As a result, the Pats never got into an offensive rhythm, and they were completely shut out of the first and third quarters. The Giants scored fewer points than any other game they played this season.

Ray Van Neste makes an excellent point in the comments section of the previous post: “Just for the record what we saw tonight was an SEC quarterback defeat a Big 10 quarterback! Sounds like the last 2 college football championships!!” Yes, Ray, I hadn’t thought of it from that angle, but you couldn’t be more right.

C. J. Mahaney’s prognostication was wrong this time. This particular Superbowl was not overrated. It lived up to the hype. What an unforgettable game.

One word: Southeastern Conference (OK – two words)

Eli Manning is from the SEC. I know, I know — the Pats had SEC players too. How else could they get in the Super Bowl.

Kudos to Tyree who didn’t get much props in the post game on Fox…and mega kudos to Eli who scrambled beyond belief to stay alive long enough to connect to Tyree…and then called Tyree by name during his MVP interview with TB. Eli is a class-act. Archie must be proud of his history-making boys today.

The game changing event was Eli scrambling away from half of the Patriots defensive line to make that pass. That was amazing. I was rooting for the Pats, but truly, the better team won last night.

That catch (and the whole game) will be talked about over and over. That was stinkin’ fantastic. I couldn’t believe it.

My favorite part, though, was when they showed Peyton Manning get all fired up and excited when his little brother did well. That was cool, and only made me like the Colts more.

    Barry

PS- Did anyone see that sorry interview with P ats coach Bellacheck

PS- Did anyone see that sorry interview with Pats coach Bellacheck and Chris Myers? He didn’t even go out and make sure he shook the hand of Coughlin. What an all around display of sportsmanship. Even whatever-his-name-is coach of Ohio St. made sure to shake the hand of LSU’s Les Miles when they got dominated in the SEC championship.

(See, another shameless swipe at OSU. I am what I am, a Tiger fan from bayou land.)

Yah, he shook Coughlin’s hand but the thing that saddened me was the way he deserted his men and left them to face the final second alone. Bad form, coach, bad form.

  • Jason

I was hoping the Giants would kick a field goal as time expired. Not to run up the score, but to give the Patriots defense one more chance to stop them (to use the words of Bill Bellicheat πŸ™‚

Rooting for the Patriots is like pulling for Satan to win. Those arrogant, record seeking, Glory hounds got what they deserved. Long live the underdog.

I enjoyed the “obligitory” post on the super bowl.

Where is the obligitory post on the new baptist covenant meeting in atlanta? Do you have any thoughts? BP has lots of interesting articles. One is by Erin Roach regarding former President Clintons remarks. I’d like to hear your thoughts.
