Lose My Soul

I love this song, and I love this video. It’s a riff on Matthew 16:26, “For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” This text is often mistaken as a verse for greedy rich people. This is a distortion.

This text is for everyone. It is for every person who tends to fixate on his idols in place of Christ. It is for all of us—rich or poor, young or old, everyone. We all have hearts that are prone to wander, and this text calls us back to recognize what is truly the pearl of great price, the treasure hidden in a field, our King Jesus.

So yeah, I like this video. Perhaps you will too.

VERY catchy tune. Loved it…though I did think Toby Mac was gonna get shot at the end of the video. Nice play on the tunes. 😉

Thanks for posting this Denny. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Denny:

In light of this post, I though you might enjoy this story:

When I was attending Southern, I caddied at Valhalla. One day, I caddied for Toby’s road manager (a really nice guy), and Toby was in the group playing as well (quite a golfer, btw). I didn’t know what to expect, but I was blown away by the kindness of Toby. In fact, by the back nine, another believer (who was also caddying) and I were joking around with him and rapping some of the old DC talk stuff. He genuinely loved it and laughed hard and treated us with such respect, unlike so many guys we caddied for who who were terribly consumed with the things of this world. So my little experience with TobyMac has made me a fan and hopeful that he truly believes what he says in this song.

Thanks for sharing the video and triggering my memory!

    Warmly in Christ,
    Steve
