LA Tech Sitting Pretty; LSU Not So Much

My alma mater tore it up again today. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs went to Virginia and beat them 44-38. Tech is now 4-0 for the first time since 1975. The win against Virginia is Tech’s second win over a BCS conference opponent. This is the fourth game in a row in which Tech scored over 40 points. They look like the real deal to me, and I believe they should be ranked in the top 25 this week. Looking down the road, Tech should be 5-0 with a top 25 ranking going into their game with Texas A & M in two weeks. And that’s a home game for us. Watch out, Aggies! How ’bout them Dawgs!

Things look a little more bleak for the LSU Tigers this week. Actually, they look really bleak for LSU. LSU has yet to play a ranked opponent, and all of their wins so far have been riddled with penalties and errors. They beat a very weak Auburn team last week, and it looked like it was due to luck more than skill. And again this week, LSU stunk up the field again. They were playing an FCS school, yet they struggled all night. Towson was able to run and throw the ball all over LSU’s defense. LSU’s quarterback was under pressure most of the night and looked really sloppy. LSU was as undisciplined as ever. They played with no heart and with no excellence.

The only reason that LSU is 5-0 right now is that they haven’t yet played a ranked opponent. That all changes next week when they go to Florida. My prediction is that the back end of LSU’s season will look a lot like the front end of Arkansas’ season. LSU will likely lose at least 2-3 games in the coming weeks. I hate to say it, but LSU is way overrated right now. After tonight’s stinkfest, I expect them to drop in the polls again. That’s hard for me to say because I really had my heart set on paybacks to Alabama this November. That is not going to happen this year. This year’s team is nothing like last year’s, and it’ hard to watch. I expect it’s going to get even harder in the coming weeks.
