Kardashian’s Unplanned Pregnancy and Abortion Dilemma

Kourtney Kardashian is probably best-known for her role on an E! network reality show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” I have never seen the show, and I know next to nothing about Kardashian personally. But today an article about her on the People magazine website caught this pro-lifer’s attention. In short, the article describes Kardashian’s inner turmoil about her recent unplanned pregnancy and deliberations about abortion. Here’s what she decided in her own words:

“I definitely thought about it long and hard, about if I wanted to keep the baby or not, and I wasn’t thinking about adoption… I do think every woman should have the right to do what they want, but I don’t think it’s talked through enough. I can’t even tell you how many people just say, ‘Oh, get an abortion.’ Like it’s not a big deal.

“I called my best friend crying, and I was like, ‘I don’t know what to do.’ She said, ‘Call your doctor, and at least find out the risks and stuff.’

“I looked online, and I was sitting on the bed hysterically crying, reading these stories of people who felt so guilty from having an abortion. I was reading these things of how many people are traumatized by it afterwards.

“I was just sitting there crying, thinking, ‘I can’t do that.’ And I felt in my body, this is meant to be. God does things for a reason, and I just felt like it was the right thing that was happening in my life.

“For me, all the reasons why I wouldn’t keep the baby were so selfish: It wasn’t like I was raped, it’s not like I’m 16. I’m 30 years old, I make my own money, I support myself, I can afford to have a baby. And I am with someone who I love, and have been with for a long time…

“My doctor told me there is nothing you will ever regret about having the baby, but he was like, ‘You may regret not having the baby.’ And I was like: That is so true. And it just hit me. I got so excited, and when I told Scott he was so excited.”

What I like about this testimony is not its rigorous pro-life logic. In fact, I don’t think Kardashian’s thinking reflects a consistent pro-life view at all. She still thinks women should have the right to choose. What’s beautiful about this story is that Kardashian’s pro-choice logic got overridden by her pro-life, motherly instincts. The bankrupt pro-abortion worldview was no match for the human treasure she came to see growing inside of her. She’s one step away from seeing that all the unborn are human treasures, just like her own baby. I hope and pray that she and so many others like her in our culture will be able to embrace that truth very soon.

UPDATE: Albert Mohler also has an article today discussing Kardashian. You should read it.

    Amen!

Last weekend my wife was working in a pregnancy center. The Lord used her through the Gospel to change the woman’s mind about having an abortion. The lady will now give birth, love and raise the children (twins).

When she was telling me the story she started crying. Then I followed…I mean…I rejoiced! 😉

I saw the info about her also. I rejoice that the Holy Spirit can work in unredeemed sinners, or else all of us would have no hope.

Altho PP claims to be for “choice” they also warn their workers not to get too fuzzy-wuzzy about a choice for life. The reason they need to warn them is because it is a God-given natural reaction.

Here’s another Amen! Although she is still pro-choice, I pray her heart will change the instant she lays eyes upon that precious gift from God.

To quote from an oldie but goodie campfire song,”it only takes a spark to get a fire going, then soon all those around can warm up to it’s glowing.” Perhaps Miss Kardashian will be that one spark that could begin to affect the Hollywood culture.
