Gays at Southern Seminary?
There were indeed some gays at Southern seminary yesterday, but none who were matriculating. They were all protesters from the homosexual activist groups Soulforce and the Fairness Campaign (pictures below). Soulforce is known for holding demonstrations at colleges and universities that have policies against homosexuality. They brought their movable feast to Southern yesterday because of Dr. Albert Mohler’s recent, controversial essay, “Is Your Baby Gay?” The Associated Press has the report:

More Misunderstanding of Mohler
The media’s misunderstanding of Dr. Albert Mohler’s so-called “gay baby” article continues. Harold Meyerson has this to say in today’s Washington Post: Mohler’s deity, in short, is the God of Double Standards: a God who enforces the norms and fears of a world before science, a God profoundly ignorant of or resistant to the arc of American history, which is the struggle to expand the scope of the word “men” in our founding declaration that “all men are created equal.” This is a God who in earlier times was invoked to defend segregation and, before that, slavery. This is a sad article and ought to elicit our prayers, not scorn.

Complementarianism as a Second Order Doctrine
Last week, there was some discussion on social media about complementarianism as a second order doctrine. The issue was brought into focus by a recorded comment that Thabiti Anyabwile delivered about women pastors. He later clarified that he still believes in a qualified male-only eldership. Nevertheless, I think his video statement—if the off-the-cuff remarks accurately reflect his position—would still be problematic because he seemed to imply that having a female pastor would not be sufficient reason to leave a church. A National Shame
It is a great national shame that we send women off to fight our wars. I understand that saying such a thing is terribly non-PC these days. The general egalitarian spirit of the age looks askance at the idea that women are to be protected, not deployed. Nevertheless, that used to be the consensus view in the Christian West. But we have fallen a long way from that integrity. That is why I am surprised to see Mary Eberstadt’s OP-ED in Friday’s Washington Post. It goes decidedly against the egalitarian grain. She writes:

Governor Mike Huckabee appeared on “Meet the Press” this morning (Barack Obama was on as well), and Tim Russert threw a string of “faith” questions at him.
