ESPN’s Emotional Interview with Bobby Petrino

Bobby Petrino talks to ESPN and takes full responsibility for the affair that got him fired as the head football of the Arkansas Razorbacks. He says that he is now working on the most important thing—trying to salvage his marriage. This is gut-wrenching to watch. But I think it’s a helpful, cautionary tale for anyone with ears to hear.

Proverbs 6:26-28
For on account of a harlot one is reduced to a loaf of bread,
And an adulteress hunts for the precious life.
Can a man take fire in his bosom,
And his clothes not be burned?
Or can a man walk on hot coals,
And his feet not be scorched?

I am in Louisville now after moving my family to attend SBTS, but I am from Arkansas and as such a life-long Razorbacks fan. I saw this interview a couple of days ago and I thought he came across disingenuous.

I hope he really is working on his marriage. My fear is that this interview was done solely in attempt to get back into coaching.

I am a die hard Razorback fan, too. I was heart broken over this as well, but because he is still focusing on his coaching abilities instead of his character. I pray that he is truly repentant and will return to coaching a much more humble person than the screaming and scowling lunatic he appeared to be in 2011. The Razorback nation needs men of integrity in key leadership roles so that these young men they influence will live lives of strong character off the football field. As a woman this is so much more important to me than national championships. Those can be taken away, but a man who loves the Lord will continue to stand even if he stands alone.
