ESPN Analysts Pick LSU over Ohio State

ESPN’s Pat Forde and Ivan Maisel pick LSU to beat Ohio State in the College Football Championship game on January 7, 2008. They say that LSU’s speed and mobile quarterbacks will prove too much for Ohio State. On top of that, LSU’s injured players will be strong and healthy by the time of the game, and all of this bodes ill for Ohio State. I agree (surprise, surprise!). You can watch Forde and Maisel for yourself here. Geaux Tigers!

Un-stinking-believable: LSU in the National Championship?

I woke up this morning thinking that Les Miles would likely be leaving LSU for Michigan and that an injured LSU team might very well lose the SEC championship game against Tennessee. Boy was I wrong. Les Miles announced this afternoon in no uncertain terms that he would be staying at LSU. Then LSU beat the Vols to win the SEC title game. And as if that weren’t enough, the top two teams in the nation lost, and now LSU is back in the hunt for the national championship. Un-stinking-believable.

    Well, I’m just sick.

LSU laid an egg tonight as they lost to Arkansas 50-48 in the third overtime. Some thoughts. 1. Poor execution. In the first qaurter, the LSU offense got into the red zone twice, but failed to make touchdowns. Instead of 14 points, they settled for 6. National championship teams should be able to close that deal by this point in the season. LSU didn’t.

    Worlds Collide! LSU vs. Tech

I am a loyal of fan of Louisiana Tech because it is my alma mater. I am an avid fan of LSU because I was born and raised in Louisiana (FYI: The LSU fan-base is statewide, just like it is for the Saints) and because I married into an LSU family. So tonight my worlds were colliding. A Tech victory tonight would have meant statewide bragging rights for the Bulldogs. A loss would only have been what everyone expected anyway. An LSU victory tonight means a number one ranking and the status of the leading contender for the national championship. An LSU loss would have meant no national championship for…

    A Win’s a Win!

LSU did not look very good tonight. They had 14 penalties for 149 yards, and Matt Flynn threw three interceptions, two of which led to Alabama scores. It was ugly, but a win’s a win. We’ll take it any way we can get it.

Wildest Football Finish You’ll Ever See

Trinity University completed 15 laterals before scoring a touchdown at the end of regulation to clinch an improbable 28-24 win over Millsaps College (both are Division III schools). You’ve got to see it to believe it. VIDEO: “Trinity Laterals Their Way to Division III Win” – ESPN.com “Greatest ending ever?” – Sport Illustrated

    Boston College Wins. Dang!

I’m rooting for LSU to win the national championship (surprise, surprise). LSU is ranked number 3 in the BCS, so tonight I was pulling for Virginia Tech to beat number 2 Boston College. It didn’t happen, and I have two reactions to this game. Reaction One: Boston College deserved to win this game. BC scored two touchdowns when it counted, and Virginia Tech’s only touchdown was not really a touchdown. They were given a touchdown because of an error in officiating. BC won. Good for them. Reaction Two: LSU would crush both of these teams. The Tigers have already put the hurt on Virginia Tech, and they would do the…

LSU Guts Out the Win Against Auburn

There’s no conference like the SEC. If Ohio State had to play the SEC schedule that LSU plays, they would already have lost two or more games. It is tough to win games in the SEC. Nearly every matchup is a hit-you-in-the-mouth street fight. Very few teams can run the gauntlet of the SEC and make it through without losing a game. The contest tonight between LSU and Auburn just goes to show how tough it is. But even though it was close, LSU still pulled out the win. One observation coming out of tonight’s game: the two quarterback game-plan is not working anymore, and with Matt Flynn back in…
