    Kevin DeYoung at Boyce College

We look forward to welcoming Kevin DeYoung to speak at Boyce College at 9:30pm on April 12th in Heritage Hall. DeYoung is no stranger to the students of Boyce College and Southern Seminary. He is an author whose books are top-shelf items among our people (see especially Just Do Something, Why We’re Not Emergent, Why We Love the Church, and The Good News We Almost Forgot [forthcoming]). He is the Senior Pastor at University Reformed Church in East Lansing, Michigan. And we couldn’t be happier to welcome him to campus.

    Josh Harris at Boyce College

Josh Harris, Al Mohler, and Russell Moore will be the featured speakers at Boyce College’s conference for high school students on March 19-20, 2009, and there is still time for students and youth groups to sign-up. The theme for the conference is “No Idols: Calling Students to Single-hearted Devotion.” Grammy-nominated Boyce College student “Flame” will perform, and “Shane and Shane” will be leading the worship in music for the weekend. Speakers / Lodging / Schedule / Registration / Contact Last year’s conference was a great success, and I expect this one will be even better. It will be a Christ-exalting, gospel-centered, Bible-focused weekend. So please tell your pastor or youth…

    GCR Report Now Online

Here’s a pre-recorded version of the Great Commission Resurgence interim report that Pastor Ronnie Floyd delivered tonight to the SBC Executive Committee. You can download the text version of Floyd’s address here. This is only an interim report, and the final report is not due until May. Nevertheless, it is clear that the work of the GCR Task Force promises to be epoch-making for Southern Baptists. The report warns Southern Baptists that we have two options: “Die a painful death, or live a painful change. . . What our convention chooses to do will determine what God does with this denomination. . . Wilderness wanderings or Canaan conquests.” We all…

    View GCR Report Online

Last summer, the messengers of the 2009 Southern Baptist Convention appointed a task force to study how Southern Baptists can work more faithfully and effectively together in serving Christ through the Great Commission. The final report will be given at the SBC in Orlando this summer, but Ronnie Floyd will present an interim report to the SBC Executive Committee tonight. So all eyes are on Nashville. At about 10:30pm EST, you will be able to see a video of Floyd’s report and a downloadable manuscript of his remarks at www.pray4gcr.com. Be sure to take a look. And be sure to pray for their work. Remember Kenneth Starr?

Do you remember Kenneth Starr? Most folks remember him as the independent counsel who prosecuted President Bill Clinton back in the 90’s. Most recently he’s been the dean of the law school at Pepperdine University. Yesterday, it was announced that he is to be the next President of Baylor University. The leader of the Baylor board of regents says this about Starr: “His depth of experience and exceptional record as a university dean and legal scholar, his dedication to the highest ideals of the Christian faith, and his profound commitment to public service and visionary leadership make him the ideal person to lead Baylor at this remarkable time in the…

Matt Chandler on a Big Platform

As I write this, the Associated Press story about Matt Chandler is the featured article on MSNBC.com. Chandler’s cancer has led to the gospel being proclaimed in the AP. And it’s not coming from a guy who just won a gold medal or the Superbowl. It’s coming from a guy who is suffering. Praise God that Chandler is not wasting his cancer. The AP writes: His theology teaches that all men are wicked, that human beings have offended a loving and sovereign God, and that God saves through Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection — not because people do good deeds. In short, Chandler is a Calvinist, holding to a belief…

    Give to Haiti Disaster Relief

If you are horrified by the pictures coming out of Haiti and if you have any means at all, please consider giving a financial gift to disaster relief efforts. Many news reports say that the immediate need of relief organizations is cash, and many of us can help with that right now. Mark Kelly reports that Southern Baptist disaster relief is being led by Florida Baptists, who have had ministry relationships in Haiti for more than 20 years and currently have seven Haitian staff members who live and work in the country. Initial funding for the relief effort will come from the International Mission Board’s disaster relief fund. You can…
