Should You Buy an iPhone 4S?

The early reviews are in on the new iPhone, and MSNBC.com has a round-up of what the reviewers are saying. Here’s the bottom line: The basic message sent by the early reviewers is that the iPhone 4S is better and faster than the iPhone 4 — as expected. The consensus appears to be that it is a great upgrade, but not an absolutely necessary one. Read the rest here.

    Is Mormonism a Cult?

Last week, Pastor Robert Jeffress introduced Rick Perry to the Values Voter Summit. Right afterward, Jeffress was interviewed by a gaggle of reporters about Mormonism and his opposition to Mitt Romney’s bid for the Republican nomination for President. Jeffress shocked the secular press covering the event by labeling Mormonism a cult and by arguing that Christians ought to support Christian political candidates over non-Christian ones. There has already been a lot of debate about pastors endorsing political candidates and about whether calling Mormonism a cult in this setting might actually have hurt Perry’s campaign. Those are important conversations, but that is not what this article is about. What I want…

President Obama Welcomes the ‘85 Bears to the White House

This is probably my favorite moment of the Obama administration. Yesterday he welcomed the 1985 Chicago Bears to the White House for a belated celebration of their Superbowl victory 26 years ago. The Bears’ trip to the White House was cancelled 26 years ago because of the Challenger disaster, and it never got rescheduled. So President Obama made good on that one today.

Steve Jobs’ Biography on Sale Now

The publisher Simon & Schuster announced yesterday that they have moved-up the publication date of Steve Jobs’ authorized biography from November 21 to October 24 (see cover at right). It hits the shelves this month. You can pre-order a copy right now from Amazon.com. One of the last people to see Jobs before his death was his biographer, Walter Isaacson. In that meeting, Jobs explains why he authorized his biography. Here is an account of Jobs’ final meeting with Isaacson: Steve Jobs, in pain and too weak to climb stairs a few weeks before his death, wanted his children to understand why he wasn’t always there for them, according to…

Come Visit Boyce College’s Preview Conference

It is Fall, and high school seniors (and juniors) all over the country are already beginning to get serious about what college they want to attend after graduation. There are a lot of choices, and sometimes making a decision can be bewildering. I want you to know, however, that there is one place that I give my unqualified endorsement to: Boyce College. Boyce College offers a solid undergraduate course of study that is steeped in the Christian worldview. I think every Christian student ought to consider the benefits of a Christian education. And for those who decide to go that route, Boyce College ought to be at the top of…

    Transgender Children and Directionless Parenting

A lesbian couple in San Francisco, California has recently decided to give hormone blockers to their adopted son. Why? Because he decided at the age of three years old that he feels like a girl even though he has the biology of a little boy. Because his gender is sort of up in the air right now, the couple felt that the hormone blockers would give him more time to decide what he wants to be when he grows up—a girl or a boy.

Interview with the Deaf Woman Who Now Hears

I linked Saturday to the Washington Post‘s coverage of a deaf woman hearing for the first time. It turns out that the Post’s initial blog post had her name wrong. The woman’s name is Sarah Churman, and the video was captured by her husband Sloan. The couple appeared on “The Today Show” this morning for an interview with Matt Lauer, and they filled in a lot of the details about her condition and the device that allows her to hear (see above). Here’s a snippet from the text form of the story:
