Albert Mohler on Gender Confusion in the Culture

There was an editorial in the New York Times on Sunday that is a virtual case-study of the gender confusion that pervades our culture. Dr. Albert Mohler has an insightful riposte that is worth the read. He writes: “The world we know is a world increasingly in revolt against the idea that gender is assigned by our Creator and is thus a fixed category. . . “The Christian worldview is clear at this point.  The Bible presents gender as part of the goodness of creation.  God reveals his glory in every aspect of creation, and this is abundantly true with respect to the two sexes.  God glorifies himself in creating…

    Carl Trueman on Moronic Worship

Carl Trueman has a must-read essay at Reformation21 about unserious worship practices. This paragraph is a gem: “A church service involving clowns or fancy dress or skits or stand-up comedy does not reflect the seriousness of the gospel; and those who take the gospel seriously should know better. Frankly, it is more appropriate to liberal theology which does not take the gospel, or the God of the gospel, seriously. Serious things demand serious idioms.   I heard recently of a church service involving dressing up in costume and music taken from a Tom Cruise movie.  Now, if I go for my annual prostate examination, and the doctor comes into the consulting…

    Boyce College’s New Website

Boyce College has a new website, and you need to take a minute to check out our new digs. Our website team has done a phenomenal job, and I am really pleased with what they have created. There are many new features here, one of which is the incorporation of the Boyce Blog into the structure of the site. The “Diablogue” that I started last semester to host our podcast is no more. Our podcast now appears on the Boyce Blog.

Why Tom Wright Hasn’t Written about Homosexuality

In the video above, Bishop Tom Wright explains why he hasn’t written on the topic homosexuality. In short, he says that he hasn’t done the necessary research on the topic. Furthermore, he says that he is keenly aware of the complexity of the issue, and thus to do the topic justice would require him to write a book the length of The Resurrection of the Son of God.

The Difference between Christianity and Politics

Adam Nagourney reports for the New York Times that the same-sex “marriage” issue has become a hindrance to the Republican Party. More and more voters are simply disinterested in fighting over this issue. Nagourney writes: “In the latest New York Times/CBS News poll, released on Monday, 31 percent of respondents over the age of 40 said they supported gay marriage. By contrast, 57 percent under age 40 said they supported it, a 26-point difference. Among the older respondents, 35 percent said they opposed any legal recognition of same-sex couples, be it marriage or civil unions. Among the younger crowd, just 19 percent held that view. “Steve Schmidt, who was the…

Al Mohler on the ‘Swine’ Flu

On his radio program yesterday, Dr. Albert Mohler talked about how Christians should respond to the potential ‘Swine’ flu pandemic. You can download the audio here or listen to it below. [audio:http://www.sbts.edu/media/audio/totl/2009/AMP_04_28_2009.mp3] The interesting thing about this discussion is that Dr. Mohler compares the current threat with how Christians in previous eras dealt with plagues. The comparison is apt and one that we should all be thinking about from a biblical perspective.

Danny Akin’s Prophetic Vision for SBC

Dr. Danny Akin is the President of the Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, North Carolina. Last week in Southeastern’s chapel, he delivered a prophetic message—a message that I hope all Southern Baptists will embrace. Dr. Akin’s vision is for a Great Commission Resurgence to sweep through the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). In his chapel sermon, he sets forth eleven axioms of such a resurgence. You can download the message here , read the message here, or listen to it below. [audio:http://www.sebts.edu/images/video/audio/7718677790.mp3] I think Dr. Akin’s vision for the SBC is the right one, and I’m praying for his tribe to increase. There is now a website where you…

Rob Bell Can’t Tweet the Gospel

Rob Bell tells Christianity Today that he cannot Tweet the gospel. There’s just too much there to fit into 140 characters. Here’s CT‘s question followed by his answer: How would you present this gospel on Twitter? I would say that history is headed somewhere. The thousands of little ways in which you are tempted to believe that hope might actually be a legitimate response to the insanity of the world actually can be trusted. And the Christian story is that a tomb is empty, and a movement has actually begun that has been present in a sense all along in creation. And all those times when your cynicism was at…
