Albert Mohler Weighs-in on the Debt Crisis

Albert Mohler is back from his summerly hiatus and has started into his second season of his podcast “The Briefing.” If you aren’t a regular listener to this program, you need to be. It is Mohler’s daily commentary on items in the news, and he packs it all in about 15 minutes or less. It’s smart and steeped in a Christian worldview perspective.

Mohler’s take on the debt-ceiling crisis from today’s program is as thoughtful and balanced as any I’ve heard. I highly recommend that you listen to it. If you missed it, you can listen to it here or just press the play button below.

In the podcast, Mohler recommends a recent Wall Street Journal article that gives a brief history of how the U.S. got into such a fiscal mess. It’s titled “The Road to a Downgrade: A short history of the entitlement state,” and you can download it here.

You can subscribe to Mohler’s podcast via iTunes here, or you can listen to the program at his website here.

This is sobering but compelling stuff. Christians need to wake up – as bad as this economy is, I have a sense we ain’t seen nothin’ yet. We need to be ready because times of trial are coming, but the extraordinary comfort and wealth that we and our neighbors have become acccustomed to has also dulled our spiritual awareness and sensitivity. Perhaps God will allow us to receive a dose of reality so that we will be ready for the final day of reckoning. It is coming. He is coming.
