A Speck on the Universe

Justin Taylor’s post about the size of the universe reminded me of this video that we have been showing to our kids recently. We are indeed specks on the universe.

Psalm 8:3-4

3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

The moon and the stars, which you have set in place,

4 What is man that you are mindful of him,

And the son of man that you care for him?

I live in the great State of Texas and have “driven” from Houston to El Paso to Brownsville along with many other parts of Texas. When I heard the comparison of the Milky Way to our solar system I was taken back. Someone said, “IF THE MILKY WAY WAS THE SIZE OF TEXAS OUR SOLAR SYSTEM WOULD BE THE SIZE OF A QUARTER.” That summed it up for me for being a speck in the universe.

And the milky way is ONE of more than 100 BILLION universes.

With no evidence of centient life elsewhere, it is a farce to conclude one random speck would develop chimpanzees and they would, by accident, accident have their 2a & 2b chromosomes fused to produce, completely without direction, the most advanced creature/civilization in the incomprehensibly vast universe.

1 In the beginning* was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

    and the Word was God.

2 He was in the beginning with God.

3 All things came to be through Him,

and without Him nothing came to be.”

    (St. John’s Gospel)

ex nihilo: from nothing was everything created
by Christ, the Eternal Word, the Lord of the Cosmos . . .

were all that was made cease to exist, God would be no less than His is . . .

and Christ maintains all in existence . . .
from Colossians 1:17, this: “. . . and by Him all things are held together.”

no wonder He could calm the sea and quiet the wind . . .

and yet, He was humble, and asked that we learn from Him

Among some Christian people, ‘humility’ is much misunderstood.
