“New Kids” Reunite

When I was in the 11th grade, a group of my friends convinced me that somebody’s uncle knew somebody that was able to get “The New Kids on the Block” to perform at our prom. They were persistent and convincing (I thought), and I’m sad to say that I was just gullible enough to believe that it was true.

They thought it was hilarious to watch me spread the word while trying to convince everyone they really were coming. Practically the whole school was in on the “Denny-thinks-the-New-Kids-are-coming” joke before I finally figured out it was a gag. I still can’t believe I fell for that.

Well, what I am about to tell you is no joke. The Associated Press is reporting that “The New Kids on the Block” are reuniting, and they have all new music.

“The boy band New Kids on the Block, which sold 70 million albums in the 1980s and early ’90s, has reunited and plans to release a new album and go on tour. The reunion comes 20 years after the release of the group’s multiplatinum album, ‘Hanging Tough.'”

It’s hard to believe that was 20 years ago. In any case, I thought this little factoid might interest others out there who imbibed the pop culture of the late 1980’s. There’s a tour planned, but I’m pretty sure they won’t be doing any proms.
